What is our primary use case?
My main use case for Visual Studio Professional 2022 is building disposable apps for my current projects. As a research analyst, I come across various tasks which include usage of software, or perhaps paid software, but I can use it and develop through Visual Studio Professional 2022 for my purpose.
While working on any research projects, I often have to conduct web searches and extract data and intelligence from web sources, which is a really time-consuming task. Recently, I developed a web scraper that extracts various news items from some of the ten companies which I have listed as part of my research work. The scraper was built in Visual Studio Professional 2022 IDE where I could extract the web links, article headlines, and some content from there, saving a considerable amount of research time.
Using Visual Studio Professional 2022 helped me build that web scraper more efficiently compared to platforms such as ChatGPT and Claude, which are also IDEs, but they were less efficient in building these software solutions. Visual Studio Professional 2022 is a fully functional IDE with advanced capabilities that provide an edge over other platforms.
Largely the same thing, I use Visual Studio Professional 2022 for disposable apps and creating scrapers that help me with regular day-to-day workload management with the AI functionality therein.
How has it helped my organization?
As I mentioned, I use Visual Studio Professional 2022 to make disposable apps or scrapers, which eventually help me increase productivity and reduce turnaround time in terms of project delivery. A lot of manual efforts are saved with the automated disposable apps created for the particular project I am working on, which overall increases efficiency and productivity.
While working on web and research work, tasks might take three to four days to gather all the information. With Visual Studio Professional 2022's automated scraper, it can do the same task in one or maximum two days, including review time. I believe this represents approximately a fifty percent improvement in productivity.
What is most valuable?
I believe the best features that Visual Studio Professional 2022 offers include its main core functionality, which combines coding, building, debugging, testing, and all deployments under one roof. This is a big advantage for people in my situation. Secondly, I would highlight the AI assistant called IntelliSense, which is good at suggesting code and auto compilation. Thirdly, the ability to connect third-party extensions such as Claude and ChatGPT Codex is valuable.
What needs improvement?
I believe IntelliSense is a good tool to work with, but I wish it could be strengthened in terms of auto suggestions and code rectification. It is efficient at this moment but has room for improvement.
Firstly, there is room for improvement in IntelliSense auto suggestion and auto compilation. Although it is very good and robust, it can be improved. Secondly, I have noticed that it sometimes takes a little time to start up and can be a bit slow, perhaps because it consumes lots of RAM or CPU resources. If that can be improved, it would be beneficial.
Regarding Visual Studio Professional 2022's AI capabilities, I believe it needs some improvement in accuracy and reliability. At the moment, while AI provides suggestions, I have to review and edit them. Although it has its concerns, it is good in that AI now gives a first draft, whereas in the past, humans had to write everything from scratch.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Visual Studio Professional 2022 for approximately one to one and a half years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Visual Studio Professional 2022 is stable. Sometimes it takes a little time on startup, but the rest of the functions are stable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Visual Studio Professional 2022 is scalable because it is a very fully functional IDE, compared to Visual Studio Code, which is a lightweight version with limitations in scaling. Visual Studio Professional 2022 allows building large and complex solutions.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I have not used any solutions before Visual Studio Professional 2022. I was manually writing code and sometimes using ChatGPT for cloud and normal IDEs.
What was our ROI?
I increased the turnaround time by approximately fifty percent in terms of automating research work.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
Visual Studio Professional 2022 was provided to me as part of the company's software suite, so I am not aware of any competitors at this moment. I have been largely using Visual Studio Professional 2022.
What other advice do I have?
Visual Studio Professional 2022 is a good tool, and I would rate it nine out of ten overall.
I chose nine out of ten because, as I mentioned in my review at the start, it is an all-in-one platform and a fully functional IDE, which is very useful for me since I do not have to go to other platforms. It covers coding, deployment, testing, building, AI assistance, and third-party integration apps such as Claude, everything under one roof. Secondly, the company offers it as part of the software suite.
Regarding Visual Studio Professional 2022's AI capabilities, I find it secured in terms of data privacy and code privacy because it is part of the Microsoft ecosystem, so I trust Microsoft for that.
I think Visual Studio Professional 2022 is one of the best options in the market. It offers all-in-one features, is a full rich IDE, and incorporates coding, testing, debugging, everything under one roof, along with third-party integration and AI assistance all in one place. My overall rating for Visual Studio Professional 2022 is nine out of ten.
