Risk-based triage has transformed container security and now prioritizes high-impact threats
The best features Qualys TotalCloud offers currently include managing cloud infrastructure and container security while facing major challenges such as alert fatigue. Traditional vulnerability scanners flag hundreds of CVEs on short-lived Kubernetes containers, some of which have no internet exposure or are gone before we can even triage them. I leverage Qualys TotalCloud to move beyond static CVSS. I use it to implement runtime exposure, correlation risk reprioritization, and shift-left integration. This notifies developers to fix a base image upstream rather than patching live ephemeral instances. In my work with cloud and container security, the biggest operational hurdle was alert fatigue. I use Qualys to shift left from static CVSS severity to context-aware risk prioritization. I correlated raw vulnerability data with real-time risk factors such as public network exposure, active runtime execution, or overly permissive IAM roles. This allows us to immediately drop the priority of isolated containers and escalate lower-severity CVEs that sit on an exposed, high-risk path. We can map these findings directly back to our CI/CD pipelines so developers can patch the root base images upstream. We have drastically cut down the signal-to-noise ratio, saved a lot of manual hours doing triage work, and ensured engineering effort goes directly towards high-impact risk reduction.

Uses unique technologies for container security, flexible integration but lacks good user experience
There should always be some customized reports included. The dashboard is one thing, and the second is a report. Based on that, users can assist their environment. For example, for some Terraform code, customers want end-to-end things with their tool. They don’t want multiple tools. For a specific purpose, we need to look at different tools. They will look for a solution in one platform only so that the cost can be saved. If we use multiple tools, it means we need to give access to different ports in their environment. It is basically a kind of security compromise happening. Users have a lot of ports being used. So, basically, users don’t want to use multiple tools. They want a single tool that includes multiple features. The report part was missing. Also, some kind of clarity [flow clarity] is not in the tool as of now, but they are working on it. For example, if somebody manages the tool in their environment, the tool should be user-friendly. But this tool is not user-friendly as of now. This tool needs some kind of improvement so that new users or new security engineers can understand all the things in a short period of time. They can understand what is happening and how we can provide. They are catching the customer needs and working along with their development team. For example, some of the policies customers wanted to be placed at the organization level were missing. But AccuKnox have projections as well. Some of the good things they have used are flexible to integrate with other tools. For example, not from the security point of view, but maybe CI/CD, some third-party tools helping out to optimize the container image in terms of being lightweight or having a very low surface level. Basically, it protects against surface attacks. If a heavier image is used, it takes time to upload and impacts overall application performance. So, some tools are good for optimization.

Provides centralized visibility and real-time threat detection across multiple cloud accounts
Regarding how CrowdStrike Falcon Cloud Security can be improved, I would say they can improve their support. There were a couple of cases where we needed to escalate issues in order to get proper support. That part could use some tweaking on their end. Additionally, the recent incident during the last summer literally impacted our systems. We had some of our workloads that affected the business, and it was a difficult experience. Apart from that, it is a good tool and the experience with CrowdStrike Falcon Cloud Security has been excellent. We did not find any kind of issues, but if they could improve their response to security-related incidents and provide on-time support or better understand our concerns and address them accordingly, it could be very helpful. Regarding needed improvements, I think they should enhance automatic alerting with CI/CD scanning and reporting capabilities. Additionally, it would be better to implement Falcon sensor health monitoring so agents are always active. We could know how it is behaving and how it is treating our environment. That could be a little helpful.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"TruRisk Insights is the most important innovation they've released this year."
"One of Qualys' best features is its categorization, which allows us to see the types of assets, their security postures, and the AI-powered version of the tool."
"Qualys TotalCloud has positively impacted our bank's performance, and we have definitely seen benefits after implementing this solution."
"Qualys TotalCloud helps you not just to identify misconfigurations, but you can actually also fix issues."
"TotalCloud offers a comprehensive suite of features, including EDR, XDR, and TrueRisk, providing a centralized platform for managing vulnerabilities and security risks."
"I would rate Qualys TotalCloud ten out of ten."
"The most valuable feature of Qualys TotalCloud is the visibility it provides."
"In my opinion, this is the best tool."
"The platform is strong in container and kernel-level security."
"The product's initial setup phase is easy."
"CrowdStrike Falcon Cloud Security has nearly saved us some amount, though I am not exactly sure of the numbers since the sales team handles the financial side, and what we have gained from CrowdStrike Falcon Cloud Security is that EC2 downtime has been prevented and time has been saved considerably, around eight to ten hours per week through automatic onboarding and centralized visibility."
"It provides alerts on suspicious command executions, helping us safeguard our systems."
"It helps us by automatically blocking certain applications or activities."
"It's easy to gather insights and conduct analysis about existing threats."
"The platform is critically important for connecting cloud vulnerabilities, identities, configurations, and runtime activity to understand actual risk because it shows us what is actually running and exploitable and gives a contextual view of the accounts that have access to those things, thus addressing the perfect storm lined up with mis-provisioned accounts, account access, vulnerable packages running on workloads, and vulnerable containers."
"I find the easy installation process, quick detection capabilities, and the cloud-based console very useful for this solution."
"We like the solution's management and monitoring tools for our network. We use it to monitor our network between workstations and outside our organization. The AI provides useful visualizations of our network on a dashboard."

Cons

"The cloud licensing unit system is unclear, especially since "units" aren't well-defined."
"I would appreciate additional integration options to connect Qualys TotalCloud with our other vulnerability management tools."
"In my opinion, the combination of detection and protection features in Qualys TotalCloud cannot protect but can only detect."
"TotalCloud could improve its scanning of niche devices like Wi-Fi dongles and USB modems because they are often untested. It covers everything else, like laptops, mobile devices, and Bluetooth IoT devices. They can improve on the small IoT devices because hackers and testers use these."
"There is room for improvement in vulnerability scanning, particularly for PaaS environments. Currently, Qualys does not have full access to these instances, which limits its effectiveness."
"Regarding improvements to Qualys TotalCloud, I suggest that user navigation can be enhanced because initially, many users found it complicated and had trouble understanding the platform due to information being spread across multiple tabs."
"I think Qualys TotalCloud needs to improve its handling of zero-day vulnerabilities and supply chain management because modern ransomware attacks not only target prime critical infrastructures but also the supply chain system."
"With the growing integration of AI, I would like Qualys to enhance its service offerings to better accommodate AI-related risks."
"AccuKnox platform have AI-based features, but those aren’t fully developed yet."
"The threat intelligence and user behavioral analysis could be more comprehensive."
"The CrowdStrike partner portal documentation could be improved to provide proper instructions for integrating their products."
"It would be more convenient if there was an easier way to install CrowdStrike, perhaps through better integration with Active Directory."
"It gets the work done, but the main problem with the solution is that if you remediate anything, it takes 45 days for you to get any of the features displayed on the dashboard. This is the real weakness of CrowdStrike. Their customer support is also not ready to help with it. If you remediate any cloud vulnerability that they are giving you, such as removing a host from your organization, it takes around 45 days for them to remove it from their console."
"There is room for improvement in the solution's ability to handle Linux systems."
"One area for improvement in Falcon Cloud Security is the support portal."
"The CrowdStrike dashboard currently lacks a username field."
"The user interface needs improvement as it's sometimes difficult to locate specific dashboards or reports."

"Qualys TotalCloud offers cost-effective licensing flexibility."
"Qualys TotalCloud offers competitive pricing given its comprehensive suite of features, including integration, assessment, remediation, and detection capabilities, all within a single platform."
"Qualys TotalCloud is cost-efficient and was selected for its value compared to other products."
"It isn't cheap, but it's reasonable. It helps us to manage things with very few resources."
"The cost is high, but it meets our organizational needs."
"I am not sure about the pricing. From what I understand, it is a bit on the higher side, but I do not have the exact numbers."
"Although Qualys TotalCloud is relatively expensive due to its unique automation features, its cost-effectiveness is rated an eight out of ten, with ten being the most costly."
Information not available
"The pricing is fair for what you get. I'd rate them a solid nine out of ten in terms of pricing."
"It is expensive, but it adds value."
"CrowdStrike Falcon Cloud Security is pricy."
"CrowdStrike Falcon Cloud Security is very expensive for us. Last month, we had a big issue that took much time and money to resolve. It slowed down our business and required our management team to get involved. We had a problem similar to the "Blue Screen of Death" issue many US companies faced. This incident used up many of our IT resources in just a few months. That's why we're looking for a replacement tool now."
"The pricing is reasonable, neither overly expensive nor excessively cheap, making it competitive compared to other market options."
"CrowdStrike Falcon is very expensive."
"The price is not too high, it is okay."
"I am not the one who handled the pricing. A different team worked on it, but it is pretty expensive."
