Plenty of useful feature and reliable
We use Asigra for backups I have found all the features useful in the solution. I have been using Asigra for approximately two months. The solution is stable. The six people in our IT department are using the solution. The initial setup was a medium difficulty level. Some parts were complex…

Complex deployment has limited adoption but has provided structured backup management
IBM Spectrum Protect Plus is very simple to deploy for us, but for more clients or competitors, the solution is hard to deploy and to integrate. For our team, deployment of IBM Spectrum Protect Plus may take a couple of days and longer if you have a complex customer solution. The deployment itself is not very lengthy, but the integration in production is more complicated. I assess the efficiency of IBM Spectrum Protect Plus's Advanced Snapshot Technology as not good because they change a lot of things. During multiple versions, we have experienced many changes in the product, and from the customer's view, it is not a good product because with each evolution, we encounter problems. We do not sell this product or advise this product. For SLA management features with IBM Spectrum Protect Plus, I utilize file level. SLA management is a good solution and a good idea, but the product does not work well, and customers do not adopt this product. I cannot assess the integration capability of IBM Spectrum Protect Plus using RESTful API. I cannot determine what benefit IBM Spectrum Protect Plus brings to the organization because we deployed this solution with one customer, and that customer changed the product after one or two years because the product is not stable and it changes with every version. The customer wanted to move away from this solution. The price of the product is good, but the solution does not adapt to the market. The market in France does not adopt IBM Spectrum Protect Plus.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Virtual Disaster Recovery in version 13 is a game-changer, especially for VMWare shops."
"The solution has been very stable."
"It allows our backup engineers to build great relationships with customers as they know their data is being protected by best-in-class software."
"The agentless architecture has minimized our software footprint at the client level."
"Asigra's agent-less capabilities make it a very convenient solution to implement."
"Smooth integration into customer's environment, interactive UI."
"The Asigra product on the whole is a fantastic solution and I would highly recommend this as it delivers everything our business and our subsequent customers required."
"There are two primary improvements of the Asigra platform with the recent version 13.1 SP1: Virtualization: a tremendous variety of data protection solutions for virtual machines, and Cloud-2-Cloud for Office 365, Google, Amazon, etc., making this a full package of data protection platform."
"IBM Spectrum Protect Plus is stable; we have a big environment that we are working in and are backing up close to two thousand machines without any problems from an IBM Spectrum Protect Plus perspective."
"The most valuable features are the API features because it allows you to integrate with your Microsoft SQL, your Oracle, and your IBM Db2."
"The solution offers a very straightforward deployment. You click, click, click and it's done. There's not much configuration to do."
"The feature I find most valuable is the offload to Spectrum Protect for long-term retention, and I think the deduplication and replication are quite nice on Plus."
"Using this tool, we can easily backup and restore or recover the data for PCs and mobiles in case of system crashes."
"IBM Spectrum Protect Plus is a good investment."
"When we need support, IBM is there."
"There is no doubt that the solution is really stable."

Cons

"There are improvements required with the virtualization solution, I'm sure we will see a significant change in 2017."
"I wouldn't describe it as a scalable solution."
"At present, downloading the relevant files and placing them into a directory on the DS-System is a little cumbersome and open to error/malicious use."
"Asigra's implementation and day-to-day costs are very high; necessary features can significantly increase the cost of implementation."
"The GUI isn't the slickest, because Asigra has opted to focus on features and capability over a shiny interface."
"The setup and configuration of this product is quite complex."
"The management could be a bit better."
"I think the product needs more diversity in Hyper-V."
"Rooms for improvement in IBM Spectrum Protect Plus are installation and configuration because those were difficult. They should try their best to improve those areas. In the next release of the product, better implementation and administration are what we're expecting."
"I cannot determine what benefit IBM Spectrum Protect Plus brings to the organization because we deployed this solution with one customer, and that customer changed the product after one or two years because the product is not stable and it changes with every version."
"I would like to see continuous data protection (CDP). If there is machine failure, you don't have to go to the backup copy that you took 12 hours ago. You can actually go back to the backup copy made half an hour ago. That is, it would be good to have certain-point-in-time recovery."
"IBM has made a decision to withdraw the product and replace it with IBM Data Protect."
"It still needs to grow and add new features. IBM Spectrum Protect Plus, I believe, requires time to become competitive due to a weakness in the other software products."
"Sometimes you have to try to restore things multiple times. It can sometimes take a whole day just to get a recovery up and running."
"There's significant room for improvement. They are not yet where I want them to be."
"IBM Spectrum Protect Plus could improve by adding SAP Rena."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The price of Asigra could improve, it is expensive. We have purchased an annual license."
"Asigra is priced competitively, but requires technical expertise to operate, optimize, and maintain its services."
"IBM Spectrum Protect Plus is a little expensive."
"The licensing model of Spectrum Protect Plus is more efficient and cheaper compared to the original."
"The price is lower than that of some competing products."
"There are a few options available for purchasing the solutions. Overall, the price of the is high."
"The initial cost of the product is perpetual but the support fees are billed annually."
"I rate the price of IBM Spectrum Protect Plus a one on a scale of one to ten, where one is extremely expensive, and ten is very cheap."
"The price offering from IBM is coming down because it is based on number of VM machines. So, IBM is coming to the market to show the added value of the product."
"In addition to the standard licensing fees, we paid for implementation and training."
