AWS Elastic Disaster Recovery and Veeam Data Cloud for Microsoft 365 cater to cloud-based disaster recovery and data protection needs. For seamless integration, AWS Elastic Disaster Recovery seems more advantageous due to its native alignment with AWS infrastructure, cost-efficiency, and automation features. Veeam Data Cloud for Microsoft 365, however, offers an edge with its granular recovery capabilities, particularly for Microsoft 365 environments.
Features:AWS Elastic Disaster Recovery integrates deeply with AWS infrastructure, providing cost-efficient disaster recovery and proactive alerting capabilities. It offers continuous block-level replication and automated recovery processes aligned with AWS services like Route 53. Veeam Data Cloud for Microsoft 365 offers granular recovery options for targeted mailbox restores and file-level restores in SharePoint and OneDrive. It enhances utility through integration with Microsoft platforms.
Room for Improvement:AWS Elastic Disaster Recovery can enhance its offerings with more granular testing features, better analytics for operational workloads, and improved support and pricing transparency. Veeam Data Cloud for Microsoft 365 could benefit from introducing deduplication, integration with external storage solutions, and pricing adjustments to lower costs while enhancing customer support guidance.
Ease of Deployment and Customer Service:AWS Elastic Disaster Recovery's cloud-native deployment is reliable, offering excellent technical support, although support resolution delays can occur. Veeam Data Cloud for Microsoft 365 provides straightforward deployment for hybrid and on-premises setups. The intuitive design and positively rated customer service could improve with quicker support response times.
Pricing and ROI:AWS Elastic Disaster Recovery employs a pay-as-you-go model, reducing operational costs and improving disaster recovery metrics, although smaller organizations may face high storage expenses. Veeam Data Cloud for Microsoft 365 operates with a per-user licensing model offering competitive pricing, though cost concerns arise with high user counts.
However, with AWS Elastic Disaster Recovery Service being a native service, integration is seamless, highlighting the return on investment.
The recovery process requires fewer people and much less time, which has saved my organization engineering effort and operational time.
We no longer have to schedule employees on weekends since the system automatically triggers alerts, allowing engineers to respond as needed.
For Office 365, Microsoft has already done a good job securing their own data center, so additional backup is basically just getting another copy for on-prem safety.
Veeam is a good investment in general.
The customer support is amazing, and it is the best customer support I have ever had.
In case of any issue, they are ready to provide support within the defined SLA timeline.
Helping us in troubleshooting each and every step if we face any issues.
My customers have reported that when they open a ticket, even complex issues get resolved swiftly with a remote session.
I find Veeam's customer service and support to be excellent, rating them ten out of ten.
They give us a notification very much in advance if there is a maintenance activity.
We can expand it to multiple data centers or different areas such as EMEA and APAC.
AWS Elastic Disaster Recovery is scalable because it can protect and replicate multiple servers and workloads, and it runs on AWS infrastructure.
The scalability of AWS Elastic Disaster Recovery is 10 out of 10.
It is very scalable because all hosting is on the cloud backup.
From organization to organization, the scalability requirement varies.
Veeam Backup is quite scalable.
It is very good and very reliable.
AWS is not difficult, but the cost associated with replicating data to another region can be significant.
AWS Elastic Disaster Recovery is stable.
I have not faced any issues impacting my operations or my customers' operations.
Our RPO improved from approximately three to four hours to less than one minute.
Because the replication is continuous and block-level, if a production server is hit by ransomware, the encrypted garbage data is often replicated to the DR site in near-real time.
This would detail user activity directly in the ACL console for easier debugging and auditing.
One area that needs improvement is the pricing of Veeam Backup, as it can be expensive at twenty-eight dollars per user for one year.
Rather than giving a help database, which is an ocean of information to search through ourselves, we should be able to open a ticket and have them guide us on how to do it.
Basically, the products, both of the products that we are using, are performing well, and we do not have any problems with it.
In my case, since the cloud is basically a pay-as-you-go model, we only pay for the replication storage, data transfer, and small staging instances.
Continuous replication minimizes data loss and the cost-efficient staging environment helps reduce infrastructure expenses compared to maintaining a full secondary disaster recovery site.
pricing is fair, and you pay for the use.
Transitioning to a cloud solution was not cost-effective for us.
The initial onboarding plus the initial expenses are slightly more when compared to another cloud-to-cloud backup.
AWS Elastic Disaster Recovery supports a wide range of source environments, including VMware, Hyper-V, physical servers, and other cloud providers, making it versatile for different IT infrastructures.
The low RPO at a seconds-level replication and a fast recovery with a low RTO provide the most cost-effective way, paying mostly for storage until failover.
Overall, the best combination of AWS Elastic Disaster Recovery is its near real-time replication and quick recovery testing, and this makes the service very useful in real-world scenarios.
The most valuable features of Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 are its intuitive interface, ease of use, and unlimited capacity for backup and restore.
I have utilized the granular recovery options for recovery mailbox and OneDrive.
The most beneficial thing is that it is admin-friendly, with no complicated menu structure.
