Real-time charging has stayed consistent and cuts GC incidents while reducing cloud costs
The best features Azul Zing offers include no stop-the-world during the full GC. No stop-the-world pauses during full GC, and we hit higher TPS with fewer JVMs -- a real win for maintenance and cost. As an online charging system, we can't afford crashes or latency spikes. Before Zing, JVMs would hang and drop from the grid on missed heartbeats. GC tuning is also out-of-the-box -- no more time consuming manual tuning like with Oracle/OpenJDK with no significant outcome.

Advanced policies and web firewall have strengthened application protection and reduced attack traffic
There were some vulnerabilities in F5. They tried to fix it, but the fixes were not available at the time because they were zero days, so they attempted to fix it, but their support was not proper. Their support should be improved because sometimes features which we need for customization take time, and they are sometimes feasible and sometimes not feasible by the team, so their support and the engineering team should improve their product. I would like to see more features regarding customization which should be built into the application, and the tool optimization should be good, and the dashboard should be more crisp and clear.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"No other JVM on the market even comes close to competing with the Azul Zing."
"Zing has completely solved the garbage collection problem for us."
"With Zing, we've now been able to re-allocate those tuning resources to general product development."
"With minimal effort, Zing has helped us improve our latency performance drastically."
"GC Pause times are maintained in low milliseconds, which is beneficial for applications with high volume, high memory allocation rate, and a high memory footprint, and it also increases throughput by approximately 20-25% as compared to Oracle Java Development Kit based on some tests that I have done with real applications."
"With minimal effort, Zing has helped us improve our latency performance dramatically."
"With minimal effort, Zing has helped us improve our latency performance dramatically."
"After using Azul Zing, it is almost a zero-incident situation because of the GCs."
"-"
"NGINX works much better than HAProxy in our current hardware and architecture for HTTP/HTTPS load balancing. "
"NGINX is much easier to deploy and configure, and the skillset required to handle NGINX is more available in the market compared to deploying F5, Radware, or Citrix."
"I would recommend this solution."
"Its versatility and capabilities make it invaluable for implementing patches and fixes when necessary."
"NGINX is the best available tool today for the tasks it covers."
"The product is resilient."
"NGINX Plus also has NGINX App Protect. It's a separate module, which is inspired by the F5 apps."

Cons

"Although Azul claims to have a fast warmup, we still experience higher latency for the first trade when our system starts up on Sundays."
"The licensing over non-production environments considerably affects the cost of our solution as a software vendor."
"It is extremely expensive."
"Although Azul claims to have a fast warmup, we still experience higher latency for the first trade when our system starts up on Sundays."
"The profiling tools included with Zing lag behind those available for Oracle's Java implementation."
"We have encounter stability issues and that has been a source of frustration at times."
"However, like every other great product, there is always something that can be improved."
"They should do in the open source version of what they did to Advanced HTTP, TCP, and UDP load balancing."
"I would like to see the Grafana integration in NGINX which is already present in HAProxy. Grafana integration will help the solution visualize all the data analytics on the dashboard which is currently not present."
"The drawback is that you must obtain a license for everything."
"Make modules easier to enable or disable. The beauty and ugly side of the NGINX modules is you have to know how to compile the module. For beginners or non-very technical aspirant(s) going for NGINX, they have to learn how to compile the modules."
"NGINX is a very basic load balancer and cannot do as many customizations as F5."
"I would suggest adding GUI-based configuration panels to NGINX Plus to simplify setup and management tasks."
"Compared to other similar solutions on the market, I think it's over-priced."
"Initially, I experienced hiccups whenever I installed the application. As with any application, there were initial issues, however, after receiving support, everything was rectified."

"It's an open source solution, so it's free."
"Compared to other similar solutions on the market, I think it's over-priced."
"NGINX Plus is worth it, if you need it. If you do not need the features or support, the free and open source package is more than capable. "
"The price is the cost to contract support with a specialized company, usually during consulting hours."
"HAProxy is cheaper than NGINX."
"NGINX Plus is an open-source solution with limited additional features. When you try to get additional features in the solution, then you need to pay an extra amount to NGINX Plus."
"NGINX is a free tool in Brazil. There are some companies which do support it."
