Easy to use, immutable, and provides good deduplication features

When we wanted to back up our Microsoft environment, we looked for a cloud backup. Barracuda provided a cloud backup. There were no other products that offered similar features at that time. I will recommend the product to others. It is easy to use. It is a complete package. It is easy to integrate the product with Microsoft. We have a complete package that includes antispam and email gateway solutions. We can choose any package we want. We use Barracuda Essentials. Overall, I rate the solution a nine out of ten.

Reliable backups have protected email and servers and now enable rapid ransomware recovery

For the smaller Datto SIRIS devices that are made for backing up one or maybe two different machines, adding more RAM and giving it a better CPU would be phenomenal. Sometimes when dealing with entry-level Datto SIRIS products, you face an issue depending on how much storage there is on there when it's trying to parse through all of the data. It takes a while, and when it comes to data recovery, time is everything. Datto SIRIS should remove the ability to set it up as a NAS-based file share operation system. It seems counterintuitive for something that is made for immutable storage that is walled off so that it can't be destroyed to be allowed to be a local centralized file share that individuals have access to. This seems to be begging for a mishap. Datto SIRIS will require some maintenance when the hard drive gets past 50% capacity, which is Datto's statement on the capacity. You should never use past 50% of the storage locally. Then you have to reach out to Datto directly to get an external hard drive to transfer files to send off the data for it to be shot up to the cloud. We've had a couple of instances of devices not uploading to the cloud because either they were too full or there were failures in certain parts of the file upload to the cloud, which put it into a circle of death where it just kept trying to do the same thing over and over again and had to request assistance from Datto in those situations. Otherwise, if you store it in a dusty cabinet, you have to spray it with a computer duster every once in a while.

"The cloud side of it is nice. Everything happens behind the scenes without you realizing it, which is nice. It doesn't interrupt usage. There is also the freedom and ease of use of the cloud portal, which you can use to manage your backup. One of the strong points of Barracuda is that you can go from zero to having your first backup running within 10 minutes. If you have access to admin accounts and everything else, it can happen in 10 minutes. The ability to go in and just restore a particular file without having to do a full restore is also very useful. You can just go in and pick the files that you need to restore, and the same is with email. You can just go in, find an email, and restore that email without having to do a full backup of all the data or a full restore of the data. I feel very safe because it is not just about the backup; it is about the protection of the data from outside threats. They have a lot of areas of ATP, that is, advanced threat protection. You don't see that much on the backup side. You see it more on the email side. In the email protection, you know it is there at the back. It moves the quarantine emails that come through into a sandbox area, and then you can choose in the sandbox. You can open up an email in the sandbox to make sure that if there is a virus, it can't harm you. You can also plan how often your backups run, such as every six hours or four hours. It is the same with email. They also have a great PhishLine package, which is phishing attack training. You can have the strongest and the best backup and security that you can, but the end user is always the weakest link. They send almost like testing emails to end users to help them identify and understand phishing emails and prevent user or phishing attacks. It is a very good package."
