Platform for documenting and modifying our processes
The tool was used for digital transformation. Our company operates in the automotive industry and needs a transition to digitalization. We utilize the BIC Platform for documenting and modifying our processes, as well as incorporating various elements such as KPIs. It serves as a fundamental tool for numerous aspects of our operations.

Created detailed rack and network diagrams that streamline documentation and collaboration
For creating diagrams, I definitely use Visio for HLD, LLD, and traffic flow diagrams. Apart from Visio, I use Jira only if the customer specifically requests it; otherwise, I do not use an in-house version of Jira in my organization. One of the good features of using the Microsoft umbrella product is that if I create a big diagram and then work on the HLD or LLD in Word, I can select everything from Visio and paste it as an image without needing to resize it, which streamlines the process of creating documentation for customers. The main benefits Visio provides me include simplifying processes, saving time on manual work with diagram creation, and delivering a clean architecture, whether it is network architecture or application flow. I have created diagrams for AWS, Azure, GCP, and on-premises data centers, including rack elevation diagrams and organization charts. Modifications can be made easily and reflected immediately, and I can create PNG images to share with the executive team.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"I'm in awe of what the software can do."
"While this is a new product it has a mature feel from being built by a company with many years in the business."
"This is low-cost and very user friendly. A variety of models are available depending on the needs of the customer."
"The central dictionary is a valuable feature."
"The product is easy to use."
"Company wide BPMS tool sustaining a long term quality management best practices to achieve the expected process maturity level but also cutting operation and maintenance costs related to the former tool in use"
"Microsoft technical support is convenient, they have an online community for Visio and if we have created a ticket with the support they always respond promptly, and we have not had any problems with the support."
"What I like best about Visio is that it's flexible. Sometimes, if I need to draw quickly, I use Microsoft PowerPoint, but if I need icons, which Visio has, I use Visio. I also like that the solution gives me a much more powerful range of options."
"It is very easy for people to start using this tool, and we can import Visio templates that are already published by vendors such as Azure without any issue."
"It is pretty easy to use if you are looking for this type of solution."
"Best way to express ROI for Visio would be the quick and consistent documentation that it helps create, provided that the product is used consistently for diagramming."
"The feature I like most about Visio is that it acts as a facilitator of communication, as it displays information that's easier to understand."
"The valuable feature about Visio is it has all the basic tools for creating processes."
"The solution is quite scalable, and great to use for any project of any size or scope."

Cons

"As the product is very new, some minor features are still missing, but everything is there to handle day-to-day process modeling."
"There's an issue with the current manual that they're working on."
"The product needs improvement regarding the confidentiality of the domain information for the key administrator."
"The solution could improve its connectivity to other systems."
"There are just some things in the new product that are not really functional issues but improvements that BIC will have to make."
"One thing they could improve is the manual."
"In terms of features, it could provide more automation to display data flowing through architecture."
"I can't speak to any missing features. It's been fine so far."
"It's not the cheapest product, but it's extremely valuable."
"The solution could improve by making it more modern."
"Indeed, Visio should progress beyond its current stage of solely drawing diagrams and transition into a more advanced phase, possibly integrating with different packages or aligning with Microsoft's offerings. It could potentially evolve into a comprehensive business process management solution, comparable to tools like Addis or Signavio, thereby competing in the realm of process management tools. It might be advantageous to explore functionalities such as process simulations or benchmarking, introducing simulators to discern potential bottlenecks or errors within complex flow diagrams. This addition would prove valuable for business analysts seeking insights into the intricacies of their diagrams, aligning with the evolving trends observed over the past six years."
"But, for beginners, or for anyone who wants to prepare a more informative diagram, I'm not sure if Visio is a very helpful tool."
"There are some performance issues on a different operating system which could be improved."
"Sometimes, there is a little bit of a learning curve with it, especially while doing complex network diagrams and getting the lines to snap the way you want them and not overlap or be confusing. It would be great if there was a built-in tutorial. It is not that you can't YouTube, but it would be nice if they gave you some free training. I've been using it forever, but every now and then, I got to do something complicated with it and I wonder how do I do that again. Maybe they do have such information, and I don't know. I have not done research on it because a bunch of people work for me, and some of them are better at it than I am, so I just ask them to do this for me."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Scalability-wise, it is an expensive product."
"Pricing will differ between enterprises based on needs such as customization, but the company uses a standardized algorithm for determining this."
"The cost of the software is reasonably priced."
"The solution is expensive. The solution does come bundled in other packages."
"We have an enterprise license. I'm not sure what the cost is."
"It's cheaper than other solutions."
"It's not the cheapest product, but it's extremely valuable."
"The product is inexpensive if you already have Microsoft products in your environment. The license encompasses all the required services."
"You can purchase a corporate license for more users to use the solution. We have purchased a stand-alone license and which could be cheaper."
"Visio is about a $180 dollars to purchase. It is a one-time licensing fee."
