Meets the needs of the customer but all of the features need improvement
I do not choose the solution. The client does. I am an implementer. We are systems integrators. It is worth mentioning that the solution should be easy to install and offer the user exhibition capabilities. Also, a data sheet should be used to gather information about the product, to facilitate easy and simple implementation. I rate CA Unified Communications Monitor as a five out of ten.

PRTG Network Monitor can be improved because the dashboard themes feel outdated. It should be updated to a newer version for the new Gen Z customers. The notification sound options are limited unless customized. Restarting probes after Windows updates is necessary, and there should be some kind of automatic restart. The initial auto-discovery added too many unnecessary sensors, so auto-discovery should only take the necessary sensors into consideration.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"For us, it's very key to know the voice quality of the total solution, which is based on many components across many domains."
"Good end-to-end monitoring"
"We use the solution to meet the needs of the customer."
"PRTG Network Monitor has positively impacted my organization by giving me historical logs I used to resolve a vendor dispute about downtime."
"The feature whereby it shows when my hard drives are moving towards thresholds that would be considered outages, before they reach that point - that is valuable."
"The up-to-date graphs and the history are very good."
"My advice to others is if you can't afford SolarWinds and those other expensive solutions, PRTG Network Monitor is the best value for money."
"If someone were looking for a basic monitoring tool for servers and networks, I would recommend PRTG Network Monitor."
"It will take care of all your monitoring needs, pretty much, but just be conscious of scale."
"PRTG Network Monitor has positively impacted my organization; before PRTG Network Monitor, it was very difficult to monitor a wide variety of sensors, but since implementing it, which supports numerous sensor types and protocols, it has become much easier for us to monitor servers, virtual systems, and cloud services to some extent."
"The alerting is the most valuable feature. I also like the iPhone app. I get alerts in an email on the iPhone app."

Cons

"The solution should have automatic baseline detection."
"All the features and functions of the solution can be improved, specifically the user experience."
"The licensing policy needs more flexibility."
"I wouldn't mind better categories for the sensors."
"PRTG access works best from the web GUI. There are dedicated apps on Windows/Android/iOS, but they are slow and don’t work as well as the web GUI."
"It would be nice if it gave us alerts via Gmail or SMS message."
"Once you start going above 5000 sensors, things do start to get a bit shaky. There are some best practice out there that you will need to adopt and be aware of."
"They could improve the process of updating the license."
"From time to time, you need to reboot the PRTG probe server."
"Their penetration within the market could be much better. If their pricing was lower, even though it's reasonable now, it might help them achieve this."

Pricing and Cost Advice

Information not available
"If you are not too sure about it, try the free version. Then, if you like it, you can go to the paid version and roll it out."
"We are using the basic PRTG that we can download for free. For now, we only need to monitor less than 100 devices. For more than 100 devices, we would need to buy a license. PRTG is much cheaper than SolarWinds."
"We are satisfied with the price."
"It is expensive."
"We pay for PRTG Network Monitor annually. The price is approximately 10,000 rupees annually."
"We have an unlimited perpetual license, so we just pay support costs and it can scale throughout the organization."
"We have unlimited devices and sensors, and it is a bit pricey, but we do have unlimited sensors. With all things considered the price is fine, related to the solution itself. PRTG Network Monitor is good value for money."
"We are using the premium version of PRTG Network Monitor. The price of the solution is a bit higher than competitors but it is worth the extra money. However, it would be helpful if the price was lower."
