Cost-effective logging solution with room for search and interface improvement
Our primary use case is logging for everything within the company. We have a custom LogShipper, and for whatever deployments we have, we add the LogShipper into our containers, apply customer configurations to parse log files, and send desired fields to ChaosSearch. We then review logs on…

Log pipelines have reduced daily data volume and now simplify traffic analysis
Overall, the pipelines and all the features are good with Cribl. The UI is good. Just sometimes, when I actually started using Cribl, I faced the issue where I was not able to connect the nodes. The pipeline is structured in a certain way, then the data will be routed to there, and something of that nature. I was very much confused about their whole products, such as Data Lake and pipelines. It's possible that at that time I didn't take any university courses, which is why I did not know much. But if they can give an intro on how we can connect nodes, or they can provide simple use cases showing what you can do with Cribl, it would help. If you just need to add the source and the destination and pre-build some proper workflow, then it will be easy for new customers to navigate through Cribl.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"ChaosSearch is considered a cheaper alternative to Elastic."
"My favorite option in Cribl is the Stream product."
"Cribl is a very good platform to work with, with lots of features that other platforms don't provide."
"Cribl brings two main improvements to our organization. The first improvement is cost saving, as we can save a lot of cost by reducing the data. The second important improvement is the data quality, which is also one of the most critical aspects because it filters the data and makes it whatever we want to see."
"Cribl's ability to contain data cost and complexity is actually very good."
"We save about 75% percent of our costs by processing network and firewall logs through Cribl."
"Cribl provides visibility and helps in that regard; we get real-time metrics, allowing us to see when we need to increase the compute of our servers or when we have over-provisioned resources."
"The feature I appreciate most about Cribl is that it is really easy to use and quick to replicate data models on different data sets."
"Cribl feels a lot easier to use and more intuitive, gives you more capability, and you don't have to work as hard to set things up."

Cons

"During my time at Klarna, I didn't see any improvements from using ChaosSearch."
"The user interface could be more intuitive and requires improvement."
"Cribl should consider adding more features that are applicable to smaller firms, allowing broader access to their data migration through Cribl."
"I think it is a bit expensive. I heard that this might be expensive."
"Perhaps more flexibility in terms of metrics would be helpful."
"What I dislike about Cribl are the documentation gaps and the setup complexity."
"Cribl's initial setup is quite complex."
"The sys logging could be enhanced to make it easier to identify errors, especially when dealing with multiple functions."
"Cribl could be improved by some UI tweaks and some usability tweaks, mostly centered around error troubleshooting for large volumes of Edge nodes."
"The cost part is very high compared to alternatives such as Edge Delta, which offers much cheaper prices."
