Centralized control has simplified cloud access and has improved operational visibility
If they can have better firewall features as their competitors have, such as Fortinet and Versa, that would help to place this solution better so that we can address security related things. If they can have all the IPS, IDS, everything built on all the edge devices, whether physical or virtual, that could be one improvement. Actually, if customers are existing Cisco customers, if Cisco can be more flexible to leverage the existing investment, that could be another important aspect to save on cost and be more competitive from a pricing perspective. Overall, the pricing or the segment that Cisco deals with is a bit premium, which they charge a bit premium against the competition on the licensing, hardware, and services. The implementation is not straightforward. You need a specialized partner or specialized people who can implement this. It can be simplified a bit from that perspective as well. Mostly the way we implement the policies for a big environment requires a lot of things that we need to take care of. If that can somehow be improved, because they have different components, like they have vManage, they have vSmart, and vBond and all these components have to work with a certain flow that they need to follow.

Seamlessly combines Internet and MPLS
Citrix has made my work easier and more cost-effective. It lowered our Internet costs and gave me the flexibility to choose providers based on each location's connectivity. Unlike before, I'm not tied to a specific provider. The central deployment feature allows easy configuration updates for all boxes from the head office, streamlining network management. This simplification has been a big plus for our operations.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The solution's application control and application traffic steering tool are its most valuable aspects in terms of how we utilize the product."
"Overall, I rate Cisco SD-WAN as nine out of ten."
"I would recommend Cisco Catalyst SD-WAN as it is a good product."
"You can easily scale the product."
"From the visibility perspective, I find that we are able to monitor and manage the entire branch and user-level activities, providing better visibility."
"Cisco SD-WAN's most valuable feature is the ease of transition."
"The most valuable feature is the ease of central management."
"When you want to access cloud applications, or you want to have secure connectivity at a branch or hub location, it is quite useful."
"The SD-WAN solution as it is already is quite feature-rich and the upgrade process is very simple."
"The reliability of connectivity is most valuable."
"The most valuable feature is its reliability."
"The zero-touch deployment is most valuable for us."
"If you only take into consideration its features and capability, it is definitely one of the better products available in the market to date."
"The functionality of Citrix SD-WAN is awesome and I fell in love with it on this deployment because it's so easy to use."
"Citrix SD-WAN helps us in re-routing certain traffic, for example, local internet breakouts for Office 365, and it also helps us to be more agile when we are opening new offices or when we are moving locations."
"The solution is brilliant, the way it calculates its paths and trails is great."

Cons

"The only concern is the cost; compared to others, the cost is higher, but the features are the same as a superior product, so we are expecting that cost."
"The UI has room for improvement."
"The integration to the LAN could be improved. It should be an end-to-end solution, not only on the WAN side but also on the LAN and wifi, so a full end-to-end solution."
"It would be better if it provided more visibility. At present, we can't troubleshoot in real time."
"It is the best solution that I ever had, but there might be something better than this in the future."
"Cisco is not great for the SMB market. These are price-sensitive customers and they typically will not go ahead with Cisco, unless and until they are a global organization and they have their entire ecosystem deployed on Cisco."
"The solution should not be so bound to ISPs."
"This solution should include a fully functional firewall at no extra charge."
"I would like to see support for additional reporting."
"The price is the only thing that could be improved. Citrix is not a cheap solution."
"The only improvement for Citrix SD-WAN would be to lower its cost."
"The initial setup could be a bit easier."
"The communication around the life cycle would have been really helpful. The main issue we have had is related to the life cycle because some of the things that we are using were discontinued. They were discontinued within a year after we had purchased it, which is a bit painful. If we had known that, we would've made some other decisions."
"I would like to see more customization to adjust for the WAN lock-out due to our unexpected power outages."
"Customer Service: Not great - the first line support for this product is pretty much nil."
"The solution's licensing model could be improved."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The price of the solution is the only negative factor, it is much more expensive compared with the Cisco Meraki SD-WAN solution."
"SD-WAN as a service is probably something in the neighborhood of $100 to $200 a month per location."
"Licensing is on a subscription basis."
"Cost-wise, Cisco SD-WAN is comparatively high."
"There is a monthly subscription to use this solution."
"The price of Cisco SD-WAN is expensive. We pay approximately $50 monthly for the use of the solution."
"There is no license required for this solution."
"Cisco SD-WAN is more expensive than its competitors."
"It depends on the scale. In our case, it would have been better if we had known about the life cycling steps, but otherwise, it is worth the money."
"The price is relatively expensive."
"The license was a one-time purchase. It's expensive."
"It would be helpful to have a demo license available for customers who want to prove the concept and conduct a proof of concept (POC) before committing to the solution. This is particularly important for customers in Egypt who often require a demonstration of the solution's features and compatibility with their needs before making any investment or incurring costs. Providing a demo license would allow customers to assess whether the solution would meet their needs or not."
"As NetScaler is now, I find it quite pricey."
"I believe that Citrix SD-WAN is a good investment, but I do not have the information to be more specific."
"Citrix SD-WAN is quite an affordable product."
"It is a bit expensive. A cheaper product would be good, but everybody likes things to be cheaper. We bought the devices up front, and then we pay for the annual support."
