Secure browsing has protected users from DNS threats and improves malware defense
The major issue is that sometimes when you install the client, it shows you protected and displays that it is live with the backend servers and everything. However, in reality, it was not getting any feed from the main client and is just sending your traffic to open DNS, which sometimes causes an issue because the protection you have implemented can be breached by users. The primary thing that Cisco Umbrella lacked most of the time is their client. Previously, they had a separate Cisco client. Now they have merged everything into the Cisco Secure Endpoint client—one client for everything, for Cisco Endpoint, for Cisco AnyConnect, and for Cisco Umbrella, which they did probably in 2025.

Easy to set up and use, and has a helpful network device inventory function
The vendor needs to do more to promote this product in certain regions, helping it to gain market share in territories where it is not widely adopted. The problem with this vendor is that they are too focused on revenue and sales numbers. If a partner is not able to generate the revenue that they're expecting, they put them on hold until they can generate interest and traction in their region for the products. It comes down to the management's mindset. They have a good product but they don't have much patience for a territory that is slow to adopt.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"This product is very straightforward and simple to setup."
"Using this solution has meant that we've needed to make fewer firewall changes."
"Cisco Umbrella is absolutely stable."
"It has improved our organization from a security posture perspective, and we feel more confident now knowing that we can block phishing attempts or any type of malware that is DNS-related, which is a very nice feature that provides peace of mind."
"The initial setup is very easy and takes only a few minutes."
"The most valuable feature of this solution is its reliability."
"The weekly reportings are great. The investigation is super and the application management is equally great."
"I haven't found any issues related to latency or any other issue."
"This product has an inventory function to help maintain a list of the equipment, which is quite good."
"This product is very stable. The entire Amazon Web Service, AWS, is powered by EfficientIP."

Cons

"The solution could be faster as the process is very slow."
"Overall, I'm quite happy with Cisco products, but there could be one place where you can check what's going on. There could be one place where you get all the information about these products so that you don't need to look around. You get the status, information about what lately happened, and if there was anything on the machine in one single place."
"One of the issues with Umbrella is as you get into endpoint detection and response, such as EDR point solutions, some of them will not integrate well with Umbrella. Sometimes when you want to use technology, such as Always On VPN, it will not work. There are some looming issues as one type of technology starts to crossover with Umbrella. That is the challenge and Umbrella should find a way to be more compatible with some of the endpoint response solutions that are coming out on the market."
"I'd like to see improvement in its overall integration with all the other platforms."
"Instead of creating a TAC case, it would be better if we could just call in and they could answer us immediately."
"The pricing is a bit high. Being outside of the USA, we have issues with the exchange rate."
"If the virtual appliances could also gather traffic bandwidth reports, that would be great."
"The biggest frustration I have encountered with Cisco Umbrella is that people can exit the Cisco Umbrella roaming client to bypass security, and some technically savvy individuals might know how to bypass it by modifying the hosts file to exclude Cisco Umbrella."
"The vendor needs to do more to promote this product in certain regions, helping it to gain market share in territories where it is not widely adopted."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The pricing is great and very competitive with the rest of the market."
"Cisco Umbrella is not a cheap product. However, it's not a matter of the cost; it's more a matter of the value of security. It is easy to measure this value when you have a security incident. I think the price is a good trade-off for a product that can help you avoid security threats."
"There is a one-time cost of approximately $800 USD per user, and then a yearly support fee of about $50 per user."
"As an educational partner, we get better licensing structures. We are very happy with that. It has been very nice that Cisco has partnered with the educational sector to bring that."
"The pricing was marvelous."
"There is a subscription cost."
"I rate the tool's pricing a five out of ten."
"The price should be slightly lower than the current price because if you look at the whole solution, it is simply a threat intelligence solution to block blacklisted things. The price should be lower looking at the features provided by the solution. The price isn't too high either, but it could be lower."
"The price of this product is very reasonable, especially considering that a company's reputation is priceless."
