Secure browsing has protected users from DNS threats and improves malware defense
The major issue is that sometimes when you install the client, it shows you protected and displays that it is live with the backend servers and everything. However, in reality, it was not getting any feed from the main client and is just sending your traffic to open DNS, which sometimes causes an issue because the protection you have implemented can be breached by users. The primary thing that Cisco Umbrella lacked most of the time is their client. Previously, they had a separate Cisco client. Now they have merged everything into the Cisco Secure Endpoint client—one client for everything, for Cisco Endpoint, for Cisco AnyConnect, and for Cisco Umbrella, which they did probably in 2025.

Automated threat detection has protected our organization and saves significant investigation time
HYAS Protect offers everything on a single page. There is not a huge number of options, so it is reduced and made to be easy to use. The ease of use with HYAS Protect has saved our time in finding solutions very easily. HYAS Protect has impacted my organization positively because there were many investigation and threat investigation applications available. There are options, but when it comes to HYAS Protect, it is easier and it is competitive. HYAS Protect has reduced the time spent on investigations because many engineers need to investigate issues, but it has reduced that time with its automation feature.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"With many of our customer's end-users on the road, it was easy for their machines to get infected or to lose information, and after we installed this product, these issues were drastically reduced and the number of infections dropped month over month."
"Cisco Umbrella is a totally different solution; they are the first to come up with this idea of security and it's a totally new concept of security for everybody, for every time, real time, perfectionism."
"As far as the IT infrastructure team goes, we're all happy with the product; it definitely takes a lot of load off of our plate and it's been functioning very efficiently and effectively, doing everything we need it to do."
"It is a good cloud-based solution for DNS security."
"The customer service and technical support of Cisco Umbrella are great."
"We use Cisco Umbrella for web security and it's very good."
"Umbrella is the best product available as of now."
"Cisco Umbrella offers DNS layer security, a secure web gateway, and cloud access security broker functionality."
"HYAS Protect has impacted my organization positively because there were many investigation and threat investigation applications available, but when it comes to HYAS Protect, it is easier and it is competitive."

Cons

"We have had issues because of functionality that it didn't support at the time, which is why it has not been fully deployed yet."
"iOS devices and mobiles are huge in my environment right now, and I cannot run them on Cisco Umbrella 24/7."
"It is a value for money product for sure. However, it does not have that kind of awareness plus brand within the customer, as they are influenced more by brands such as Palo Alto or Fortinet."
"If I want to see which users access a website, I need an Active Directory registered on Umbrella's cloud."
"Instead of creating a TAC case, it would be better if we could just call in and they could answer us immediately."
"They can maybe simplify the configuration. For example, sometimes, the proxy part is quite difficult, and that's why we didn't deploy that."
"If you wish to inspect all the traffic and it's integrated with Cisco AnyConnect, all the traffic basically goes through Cisco AnyConnect, which is not a good idea. That means you need to have more internet capacity as a data sampler, so in the case of a split tunnel, we cannot inspect the traffic that is being migrated through the local internet. I'm not sure whether there is a possibility wherein Cisco Umbrella can also inspect the traffic that is outside the AnyConnect tunnel."
"I would like the product to offer more security features, such as IPS, IDS, DDoS prevention, etc."
"By adding more automation features, HYAS Protect can be improved."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"We were using the free version, and we implemented the paid version about two months ago. I'm paying a fair price, but everything is negotiable with Cisco. One of the benefits that I got by having Cisco Umbrella is the licensing of the Cisco AnyConnect VPN client."
"The product is pricey compared to Cisco Firepower."
"Its value exceeds its pricing."
"It needs a better price point."
"The licensing fee is paid on a yearly basis."
"The pricing is fair."
"As an educational partner, we get better licensing structures. We are very happy with that. It has been very nice that Cisco has partnered with the educational sector to bring that."
"It has a reasonable price. It is certainly not as expensive as it used to be. It is in line with other offerings on the market. There are a number of different flavors of Umbrella. They could bring Umbrella SIG down a bit because its price is a little bit high for what it does, but I also understand why its price is high."
