Secure browsing has protected users from DNS threats and improves malware defense
The major issue is that sometimes when you install the client, it shows you protected and displays that it is live with the backend servers and everything. However, in reality, it was not getting any feed from the main client and is just sending your traffic to open DNS, which sometimes causes an issue because the protection you have implemented can be breached by users. The primary thing that Cisco Umbrella lacked most of the time is their client. Previously, they had a separate Cisco client. Now they have merged everything into the Cisco Secure Endpoint client—one client for everything, for Cisco Endpoint, for Cisco AnyConnect, and for Cisco Umbrella, which they did probably in 2025.

Effective threat protection with room for cost and usability improvements
There are some drawbacks that I would mention. To be frank, enterprises always look for cost benefits, so Kaspersky could implement some price benefits. Additionally, regarding know-how, if I am an experienced person it's fine, but when someone novice is working with it, they need information about why certain actions are required. Security is a field that is very vast, and implications are not known to everyone. In future updates, a quick walk-through and know-how features would be beneficial, such as information text at relevant places. This will increase usability. Feature-wise, an impact analysis would be a really good addition.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Cisco Umbrella has positively impacted my organization by providing a good security solution, especially as we are a consulting company that faces threats of attackers attempting man-in-the-middle scenarios while my users are connecting to public Wi-Fi networks."
"There was a positive effect on productivity because we could track and confront the users that were frequently using social media or streaming video during the work day."
"The most valuable feature for us is the DNS-based protection."
"Cisco Umbrella has improved our organization in the sense that we have more users working from home because of the pandemic."
"One valuable feature is definitely its simplicity in terms of deployment. It is very easy to integrate it into the environment without any heavy lifting. Users didn't notice that we implemented it. You can start with a very low monitoring mode and start observing what Cisco Umbrella sees."
"The solution is very easy to manage. We found the initial setup, for example, to be quite simple."
"I think we got our return on investment within the first month of its use, because of the increased security that we had in the organization; the ability to have a product that is protecting our end-users."
"I think recently with many people working from home, Cisco Umbrella has been very useful, for example, we can manage the device and the network when the employee is not working on the local host, and Cisco Umbrella is very valuable for this kind of infrastructure."
"I would recommend it to others as it's easy to use."
"The most valuable features of this solution are its ease of use and operation efficiency."
"When it comes to threat detection, it is very strict with file downloads and uploads. It sends reports and quarantines suspicious files."
"The most valuable feature of Kaspersky Security for Internet Gateway is the antivirus."
"The password thing is very good, and the overall URL protection."
"Kaspersky Security for Internet Gateway has positively impacted our organization by helping us control unwanted attacks and limiting our exposure to risks."
"The most valuable features of the solution are the antivirus and child protection features."
"The most valuable aspect for me is the user-friendly interface."

Cons

"Sometimes there are some lags, and I have to refresh multiple times to access parts of the dashboards. Sometimes the dashboard pages crash and I'm not sure why, so that's one area for improvement."
"In the future, they should combine some of the Cisco AMP features that they already have, for anti-malware purposes."
"It has happened in the past that Cisco Umbrella has denied us access to secure websites."
"It is a value for money product for sure. However, it does not have that kind of awareness plus brand within the customer, as they are influenced more by brands such as Palo Alto or Fortinet."
"I would like to see more integrability with other products."
"The pricing is a bit high. Being outside of the USA, we have issues with the exchange rate."
"We need to work on integration as it is very complex."
"The pricing could be improved."
"There is room for improvement in terms of the pricing."
"The initial setup of Kaspersky Security for Internet Gateway is complex. The full deployment took approximately two weeks."
"When I do a configuration, I do not know what implication it will have downstream."
"It might be helpful to have notifications on mobile devices, especially if the same browser profile is used on both mobile and laptop."
"I believe the absence of a procedure is the main issue."
"In different locations, they're priced differently, but that's mainly marketing rather than the product features."
"The customer support of the product is an area with shortcomings where improvements are required."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Cisco has a set price for a single license up to 100, but whenever we get over 100, we have to ask for a quote."
"The price could be lower."
"Cisco has a model called ELA. With ELA, if you buy the solution you will have the complete security portfolio and you can pay it yearly or after three years, it depends on the contract."
"There are three models for licensing with different feature sets."
"The price is fair, and the licensing cost is based on the number of users. We have seen a good ROI."
"Our costs were negotiated, and they are okay."
"It was a little bit expensive on a per seat basis, but the company I was running was only a midsize Australian company, and it was a reasonable budget per computer for that system. It started off being a free product, and then Cisco bought it, and it went to a reasonable price. I was using Cisco AMP as well. So, my per computer cost was reasonably high, but for a small company, it was within an acceptable level."
"In my opinion, Cisco Umbrella now has a good price in the basic packages. When it comes to Cisco Umbrella SIG Essentials package and Cisco Umbrella Secure Internet Gateway (SIG) Advantage package, it depends on whether the project has a good price or not"
"I rate the product's price an eight on a scale of one to ten, where one is very cheap, and ten is very expensive."
"Personal computer licenses can be expensive if you were to scale the solution extensively. However, large companies will most likely use Endpoint solutions and not this one."
"I am okay with the pricing."
"I would rate the pricing a seven out of ten, with ten being very expensive and one being cheap. It's neither too cheap nor too expensive."
"It is expensive."
"The cost is relatively high, and as a licensed product, there are restrictions on the number of users permitted per license."
