Cribl and VictoriaMetrics compete in data management and monitoring solutions. Cribl leads in integration flexibility, while VictoriaMetrics stands out in scalable database capabilities.
Features: Cribl offers real-time data routing, transformation, and integration with diverse systems, enhancing data observability. Its flexible integration supports complex data sources. VictoriaMetrics includes efficient storage, high ingestion rates, and support for multiple query languages, ideal for large-scale metric data handling.
Ease of Deployment and Customer Service: Cribl enables seamless implementation with responsive customer service for quick deployment. VictoriaMetrics requires technical expertise for deployment but benefits from a supportive community and detailed documentation.
Pricing and ROI: Cribl's subscription model provides transparent pricing, suitable for predictable budgeting, offering a quicker ROI with immediate integration benefits. VictoriaMetrics, being open-source, presents a lower initial setup cost but may require additional investment for full-scale deployment, ensuring long-term cost efficiency.
What we've seen is really an overall reduction of just shy of 40% in our ingest into our SIM platform versus prior to having Cribl.
The second thing is that data aggregation, sampling, and reduction that we're able to do of the data, lowering our overall data volume, both traversing the network as well as what's being stored inside of our final solutions.
In terms of reduction, we were able to save almost ~40% of our total cost.
time was saved due to simplicity and a shorter learning curve compared to other tools.
They had extensive expertise with the product and were able to facilitate everything we needed.
Usually, within an hour, we get a response, and we are able to work with them back and forth until we resolve the issues.
Sometimes by hearing the problem itself, they will know what the solution is, and they will let us know how to resolve it, and we do it immediately.
We reached out once or twice for minor issues during the initial setup and integration, and they were helpful in resolving the issues.
We use the open-source version of VictoriaMetrics, so we did not require any customer support.
The infrastructure behind Cribl Search is also scalable as it uses a CPU and just spawns horizontally more instances as it demands and requires.
Compared to other SIEM tools I use, any slight change on the operating system end impacts a lot on our SIEM tools and other things, but Cribl performs well in that regard.
Cribl performs effectively across both market segments.
We deploy and embed it in our Helm chart and it works out of the box.
VictoriaMetrics has handled increases in data and users smoothly so far.
Migrating from those SC4S servers to Cribl worker nodes has truly been a game-changer.
Regarding scalability, we started with zero servers and have around 285 servers now.
Cribl is designed to deal with certain kinds of loads and is not designed to handle any scenario in the market.
The accuracy and reliability of the output I get from VictoriaMetrics are quite accurate and reliable.
VictoriaMetrics stores metrics and when you query it, it gives you metrics.
A more stringent role-based access control feature would enhance security and allow granular control over what users can see and access.
When passing query logs or DNS logs, if certain malicious query patterns need to be identified or if fast-flux attacks are happening, Cribl can report that and those would definitely be a plus for them.
I would advise others looking to implement Cribl that if they are evolving Cribl Search, it would be very interesting to see more capability, more flexibility, and more ways to share the data similar to Splunk.
For our use cases, it is a really good offering, and while we would be interested to see what else it brings in the future, at this point in time it checks all our boxes and we are quite satisfied with it.
VictoriaMetrics is quite a good project and quite easy to use overall.
I compared it with my experience on other time series databases, and it has a huge advantage, so I do not see the need for urgent improvements or optimizations.
Over time, the licensing cost has increased.
It was cheaper than the Splunk license.
Splunk is more expensive, and Cribl appears to be more affordable.
We did not require any license for VictoriaMetrics since we are using the open-source version.
I used the free open-source version, and it was sufficient for my needs.
The data reduction and preprocessing capabilities make Cribl really unique.
Cribl has a feature called JSON Unroll or Unroll function that allows you to differentiate the events; each event will come ingested as a single log instead of piling it up with multiple events.
The Cribl UI is very simple and easy to use, particularly when working with data from various sources; it makes it very easy to create pipelines, add complex logic to those pipelines, and then gives you a preview of what your data looks like before applying that pipeline and what you get after.
The best aspect of using VictoriaMetrics is the reduction in resources including RAM, memory, disk, and other infrastructure requirements, which have all decreased substantially after implementation.
In my experience, the best features VictoriaMetrics offers include that VM agent does its work very efficiently and does not use a lot of resources.
The light-speed query feature has made a significant difference for me because when we query, it is much faster in VictoriaMetrics compared to the other tools we had used previously.

Cribl offers advanced data transformation and routing with features such as data reduction, plugin configurations, and log collection within a user-friendly framework supporting various deployments, significantly reducing data volumes and costs.
Cribl is designed to streamline data management, offering real-time data transformation and efficient log management. It supports seamless SIEM migration, enabling organizations to optimize costs associated with platforms like Splunk through data trimming. The capability to handle multiple data destinations and compression eases log control. With flexibility across on-prem, cloud, or hybrid environments, Cribl provides an adaptable interface that facilitates quick data model replication. While it significantly reduces data volumes, enhancing overall efficiency, there are areas for improvement, including compatibility with legacy systems and integration with enterprise products. Organizations can enhance their operational capabilities through certification opportunities and explore added functionalities tailored towards specific industry needs.
What are Cribl's most important features?Cribl sees extensive use in industries prioritizing efficient data management and cost optimization. Organizations leverage its capabilities to connect between different data sources, including cloud environments, improving both data handling and storage efficiency. Its customization options appeal to firms needing specific industry compliance and operational enhancements.
Teams that switch to VictoriaMetrics report 70% less RAM and 75% less disk (verified PeerSpot user reviews), and cloud bills up to 10x lower (Grammarly case study) — while keeping their existing dashboards and alerting rules working. It is an open source observability solution for metrics, logs, and traces: a drop-in replacement for Prometheus and other backends that keeps scaling when data volume, query speed, or cost no longer does. It runs anywhere — from a Raspberry Pi to thousand-core clusters, on-premises or in the cloud — and is Kubernetes- and OpenTelemetry-compatible. Built by engineers, for engineers: 1B+ Docker pulls, 19M GitHub downloads, and 17K+ GitHub stars. Simple, reliable, and efficient observability for everyone.
VictoriaMetrics delivers observability in two complementary forms. The open source products are complete, production-grade, and free to run at any scale. Enterprise builds on that same code with capabilities and support for the most demanding environments — it extends open source rather than gating it.
Open source. VictoriaMetrics is a high-performance time series database and monitoring solution, compatible with PromQL via MetricsQL, so existing Prometheus dashboards, recording rules, and alerting rules keep working. VictoriaLogs is a logs database for mission-critical logging, and VictoriaTraces stores and queries distributed tracing data. All three are engineered for minimal RAM, disk, and compute at high ingestion rates.
Enterprise. VictoriaMetrics Enterprise adds features for large, multi-team deployments — plus direct support from the engineers who build the product, with architectural and security guidance. VictoriaMetrics Cloud is the same solution fully managed, and VictoriaMetrics Anomaly Detection applies machine learning to cut alert noise, so the alerts that do reach your team in Slack or on their phones are the ones that matter.
Measured results from users. PeerSpot reviewers report roughly 70% lower RAM use, 75% lower disk use, 3x faster writes, and 7x faster p95 query latency after replacing Prometheus. Grammarly cut its monitoring-related AWS bill about 10x; Granulate reduced metrics storage costs about 5x after moving from Grafana Cloud (Mimir).
