Improved data governance has enabled sensitive data tracking but cost management still needs work
I believe we could improve Databricks integration with cloud service providers. The impact of our current integration has not been particularly good, and it's becoming very expensive for us. The inefficiencies in our implementation, such as not shutting down warehouses when they're not in use or reserving the right number of credits, have led to increased costs. We made several beginner mistakes, such as not taking advantage of incremental loading and running overly complicated queries all the time. We should be using ETL tools to help us instead of doing it directly in Databricks. We need more experienced professionals to manage Databricks effectively, as it's not as forgiving as other platforms such as Snowflake. I think introducing customer repositories would facilitate easier implementation with Databricks.

I would recommend buying this product for loan origination purposes
FICO OM is very flexible in terms of development, with rapid application development options Streamlined loan origination processes. Credit products. Two years. No. No. Below average. Straightforward. Flexible. Yes, we did. I would recommend buying this product for loan origination…

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Databricks allows me to automate the creation of a cluster, optimized for machine learning and construct AI machine learning models for the client."
"The solution's features are fantastic and include interactive clusters that perform at top speed when compared to other solutions."
"Our company makes comprehensive use of the solution to consolidate data and do a certain amount of reporting and analytics."
"Ability to work collaboratively without having to worry about the infrastructure."
"The most valuable feature is the Spark cluster which is very fast for heavy loads, big data processing and Pi Spark."
"I work in the data science field and I found Databricks to be very useful."
"Databricks gives us the ability to build a lakehouse framework and do everything implicit to this type of database structure. We also like the ability to stream events. Databricks covers a broad spectrum, from reporting and machine learning to streaming events. It's important for us to have all these features in one platform."
"Databricks is a unified solution that we can use for streaming. It is supporting open source languages, which are cloud-agnostic. When I do database coding if any other tool has a similar language pack to Excel or SQL, I can use the same knowledge, limiting the need to learn new things. It supports a lot of Python libraries where I can use some very easily."
"FICO OM is very flexible in terms of development, with rapid application development options."

Cons

"Databricks' technical support takes a while to respond and could be improved."
"The product should incorporate more learning aspects. It needs to have a free trial version that the team can practice."
"Databricks has a lack of debuggers, and it would be good to see more components."
"Some of the error messages that we receive are too vague, saying things like "unknown exception", and these should be improved to make it easier for developers to debug problems."
"The product needs samples and templates to help invite users to see results and understand what the product can do."
"Databricks does not always have clear updates. Often we find an update in the tool but we are not really sure what has changed."
"Databricks would have more collaborative features than it has. It should have some more customization for the jobs."
"I have had some issues with some of the Spark clusters running on Databricks, where the Spark runtime and clusters go up and down, which is an area for improvement."
"Customer service is below average."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"I'm not involved in the financing, but I can say that the solution seemed reasonably priced compared to the competitors. Similar products are usually in the same price range. With five being affordable and one being expensive, I would rate Databricks a four out of five."
"The solution is based on a licensing model."
"My smallest project is around a hundred euros, and my most expensive is just under a thousand euros a week. That is based on terabytes of data processed each month."
"We find Databricks to be very expensive, although this improved when we found out how to shut it down at night."
"We implement this solution on behalf of our customers who have their own Azure subscription and they pay for Databricks themselves. The pricing is more expensive if you have large volumes of data."
"Price-wise, I would rate Databricks a three out of five."
"Databricks' cost could be improved."
"The price is okay. It's competitive."
