Resilience has supported proactive management and secured audit readiness across multiple sites
The resilience in Dell PowerStore benefits my company from an auditing perspective because we know we have that resilience in place. I see Dell PowerStore playing a bigger role in the future because we are starting to use it more, and that is pushing it. The biggest return on investment for me when using Dell PowerStore is scalability. Scalability is key. I can amplify that scalability is the biggest return on investment because we have redundancy between two sites; if something goes down, we have to manage it, but we want to do it proactively.

Needs standalone functionality but provides a robust NAS solution for existing SAN environments
I would suggest that Hitachi make a NAS box that can work independently, without relying on SAN connectivity. The current solution only suits customers who already have a Hitachi SAN environment and want to add NAS protocols like NFS and CIFS. It's not suitable for customers without an existing SAN, as they would first need to acquire the SAN infrastructure before adding NAS functionality.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"My advice to other organizations considering Dell PowerStore is to look at the reliability and the history of the company and its heritage."
"The biggest improvement we found when moving into Dell PowerStore was the deduplication and compression."
"Updates come with enhancements. Each time we do an update, there is an enhancement, like new features, which is extraordinary. Other companies would try to charge for all that, but the enhancements just come with it."
"The simplicity and performance are great."
"The biggest advantage in Dell PowerStore is that now the world is moving into AI, and they have AI power."
"A particularly valuable feature is its simplicity."
"Dell PowerStore has definitely helped my customers improve their operational efficiency, as they can use their operations more efficiently with it."
"The solution is easy to use and has good performance."
"Some bugs cause issues but I love the ASIC architecture behind it."
"Simple and extremely reliable."
"Hitachi NAS Platform is very stable."
"The product’s technical support services are good."
"The reliability and scalability of Hitachi NAS Platform are valuable features."
"The Hitachi storage platform is highly scalable and highly available."
"The reliability of the product is its best feature."
"The product has valuable features for data migration."

Cons

"One feature I would like to improve with Dell PowerStore is regarding Metro LUNs."
"The management UI is pretty decent and gets the job done, but the upgrade process is challenging."
"The licensing is a little bit high, but the product is very good."
"Regarding enhancements for Dell PowerStore, I believe a couple of things can be improved, such as the GUI and CLI connectivity."
"There is an issue with Dell PowerStore related to future expansions which are software-related."
"It would be helpful for us to have support for the S3 protocol because our main competitor has the S3 protocol in their system."
"We need to find a way to ensure the cache data is safe and secure."
"We'd like to see some improvements on the security side."
"We would like to have a more economical version of this solution that is suitable for use with a mid-range scale, such as one that can handle between 35,000 and 50,000 users."
"There are insufficient improvements in certain areas."
"We have had two stability issues: We had a bad software version that used to randomly crash both nodes in a cluster File system corruption after activating in DR site"
"Hitachi NAS Platform's pricing could be reduced. It is high compared to other competitors."
"Hitachi NAS Platform needs to improve by offering a unified storage solution. Due to budget constraints in regions like Southeast Asia, customers prefer a single machine that can handle all problems, which the current platform does not provide."
"I encounter challenges while installing the upgrades for the product."
"I would suggest that Hitachi make a NAS box that can work independently, without relying on SAN connectivity."
"The monitoring tool is not well developed and my guess is that the companies are not investing too much money in this area."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It is easy to work with Dell from the licensing perspective."
"The rate is always too high. Nobody likes paying for it. I have not seen a client yet who says that the price should be higher. Initially, people look at it, but when they see what the benefits are, it is a no-brainer. We can give them good pricing at the outset."
"With compression, we were able to have a solution within our company's budget. We include a clause in the contract with Dell that states if the compression ratio is not met, we will adjust the workload accordingly."
"We are happy with the pricing that we get from Dell."
"Dell PowerStore is not a cheap solution."
"There's still a cap on the upgrade path, where you can consume all the engines within the frame before you have to go to another frame... Normally, we exceed the IOPS on the frames before we can ever exhaust the storage, so anything they can do to help us avoid stranded storage capacity, capacity that we couldn't get to, would be beneficial."
"The solution is expensive."
"It is very expensive though when you get to this point of using the 3000 with a client. They will start to think about using another vendor. There are a lot of solutions similar to PowerStore in regards to networking capacity and their prices are very cheap compared to PowerStore."
"Costs are based on the features and it is a considerable amount."
"It is a highly-priced product."
"Hitachi NAS Platform’s price is high and depends on SCSI disc capacity."
"I would rate the solution's pricing six to seven out of ten."
"This solution is priced well and there are no costs in addition to the standard licensing fees."
