Has improved performance for mission-critical workloads and enabled seamless non-disruptive upgrades
The availability is 99.99%, which is the main factor any customer would need because their data should be available whenever they want to access it. This is one main critical thing. It is very easy to upgrade since Pure Storage FlashArray handles it well. Everything is non-disruptive now; previously, there were forklift shifts, but now that is not the case. Pure Storage FlashArray says no to forklift upgrades. Usually hardware requires downtime, but Pure Storage FlashArray has improved their footprint so that they are not asking for downtime; everything is just a non-disruptive activity, which is why customers are more inclined towards Pure Storage FlashArray. Customers want more of the models in their environment due to the performance they are giving, and everything is in one Pure1 Array console where we can view all the models on one page or just an orchestration tool. You don't miss anything; you have replication, notifications about replication, and details about which host groups replication is happening in and if that replication is successful or failed. On a daily basis, our purpose is to create volumes for infrastructure; our daily activities include creating volumes and mapping them to the host, doing any migrations from a VM, clearing the data stores, and carving the volumes to those VMs. One key factor is the data compression with a ratio of 5:1, focusing on space efficiency, inline deduplication, and the compression Pure Storage FlashArray works on; that is a major factor we can suggest to any customer. Analytical capabilities are crucial. Daily, we check the throughput and consumption, and Pure Storage FlashArray provides predictions for one year regarding usage. This prediction helps plan updates well ahead. For support, we just raise a case, and they follow up and get it done. There is also AI readiness, but with the model R2, we don't have much of that AI readiness. For others, we do have AI readiness that predicts capacity based on daily or monthly trends, enabling us to analyze how much space we need or if we need to expand the disk shelf. From an operational point of view, a good feature is that if you accidentally delete a volume, it will be retained in the destroyed state for the next twenty-four hours, which is not the same with any other vendor. I have worked in this storage domain for the past fifteen years, and this option is remarkable, benefiting any L1 or L2 engineer. Additionally, from a compliance perspective, Pure Storage FlashArray has REST APIs enabled. I have not explored automation much, but from a security standpoint, it is strong with encryption data. If you want to automate, you can easily integrate with all clouds and explore Pure Cloud for scheduling workloads, including volume creation. Customers find benefit in Pure Storage FlashArray's single management pane of glass due to the dual controller and active-active setup. If one of the controllers goes down, all workloads automatically shift to the other controller, ensuring their data is safe and accessible at all times. This is a highlighted feature that any customer desires because their data should always be accessible. For SAN workloads, we use Pure Storage FlashArray because for SAN FC fiber channel, we don't use it; we use NetApp for NAS activities. We have clearly split this, so SAN is for mission-critical applications, while network-attached storage handles file systems. This architecture helps us maximize the benefit from Pure Storage FlashArray due to the significant workloads from this giant retail client. From a footprint and energy consumption perspective, you can see energy consumption from the Pure1 storage portal on a daily basis, and it is very compact. The three models we use consume only three units, which is quite low. From a footprint and data center perspective, it doesn't occupy much space. As everything moves to cloud, there are requirements to avoid excess spending on data centers, and Pure Storage FlashArray is efficient in energy consumption and is environmentally friendly.

Performance and interface improve data processing speeds but require complex configuration
The most valuable features of VMAX are its performance and GUI interface. We have seen significant improvements in technology over the last four to five years. The snap feature, along with deduplication, has notably enhanced our data processing speeds. We haven't experienced any outages or core-level issues in the last ten years, making us comfortable with the storage solution.

Disintegrated all‑flash storage has boosted ERP performance and delivers instant operational insights
I appreciate that HPE Alletra Storage is an all-flash NVMe storage with a disintegrated architecture, allowing me to enhance performance without needing to add capacity. If I'm buying the Alletra MP 10000 right now with two controllers and 24 NVMe drives, I can simply add a single controller to boost my performance without being stuck with the limit of two controllers at a time for upgrades. Seamless integration with existing infrastructure is absolutely important to our organization's strategy because otherwise, I would need to redo everything repeatedly, which consumes significant time. We do use the AI-driven insights in HPE Alletra Storage. The AI-driven insights for Alletra MP 10000 greatly assist our data operations by providing immediate access to insights without going into the storage or asking the storage administrator for data. This enables any storage manager to easily obtain insights regarding performance, IOPS requirements, disk usage, and compression ratios from anywhere in the world. In terms of predictive analytics features, HPE Alletra Storage automatically opens and enriches support cases with diagnostics during any storage issues, which drastically reduces the mean time to repair and eliminates manual log collection, resulting in much higher efficiency in support automation.

Cons

"One improvement area is the eradication time delay."
"In terms of the future, I have been excited by some of the copy data management stuff that they're talking about building into the environment. There are feature sets where I've done a lot of automation work. So, I am always looking forward to extensions of their API. They're also talking about a phone home centralized analytics database being used as a centralized management console with a list of new cloud features, but this doesn't seem finalized."
"It would be beneficial to have a separate pricing point for environments with lower performance requirements or less workload."
"I want to improve the overall service level of the solution."
"Part of our company works on Dell EMC because Pure Storage did not have synchronous applications when we were purchasing our products."
"We need to add more storage in Pure Storage FlashArray with the cluster mode activated for us to have better performance."
"More cloud connectivity would enhance the solution."
"Its price needs improvement. Its price is almost double than any other flash storage solution."

"The configuration part of the product is an area with certain shortcomings where improvements are required."
"There is room for improvement in the centralized administration."
"The scalability of VMAX is somewhat limited, especially in terms of cache scalability. We've had to procure additional engines to address this limitation."
"Improvements are needed in both partition recovery and scalability."
"My suggestion is that the HPE Alletra Storage or HPE storage portfolio should offer storage models that can accommodate NFS and file shares, and block shares in the same single enclosure or controller."
"There were challenges initially, deploying it. I'm not sure there was an issue with compatibility between our ESX host connecting to storage, or something of that nature. However, we would constantly drop storage."
"Long-distance, high-latency replication enhancements would be delightful to see in future versions."
"I'm not sure if I've gone through all the features. There's always room for improvement."
"I would like to see some form of direct connect fiber channel options."
"I would like to see more compression and more scalability in the next release of HPE Alletra Storage."
"On a scale of one to ten, I would give HPE Alletra Storage around a seven."
"To improve HPE Alletra Storage, I suggest adding more expansion capabilities. We are currently limited to a certain number of shelves, so extending it to even greater capacity would be beneficial."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The pricing is reasonable."
"It is cost-effective because after buying a subscription, they provide a service to upgrade hardware for free. They are providing so many features. When you consider the features provided, it is cost-effective."
"FlashArray is expensive, but the quality justifies the price."
"The price of Pure Storage FlashArray is expensive."
"We have seen a reduction in total cost of ownership (TCO)."
"The guaranty that Pure Storage provides when you purchase it doesn't meet the overall capacity needs to provide extra storage, if needed. Thus, it is not meeting our expectations."
"Pure Storage is all-flash, so this sometimes tends to make it a bit more expensive in the beginning."
"The Evergreen Storage subscription is a really cool concept. As long as we maintain our subscription, we will get new controllers every three years and really never have a forklift upgrade like we currently are doing. Just that future-proofing is an ease off of my mind to know that I won't have to do what I'm dong right now again."
"The price falls within the mid-range, neither inexpensive nor high-priced."
"It is not a cheap product."
"It is fairly priced. It is in line with industry standard pricing and cost models."
"The solution is expensive and can cost around five lakhs."
"For us, its price is good."
"Its pricing is very competitive."
"HPE was a clear winner on price per terabyte. It was very smooth."
"Its licensing is good. Pricing-wise, there can be a little bit more flexibility. It would help to have different sizes. However, it fits into the budget that we have, so we are happy."
"Its price can be optimized."
"The pricing is somewhat high, but when customers choose HPE, they often prioritize the brand value over pricing. The pricing is higher compared to other vendors."
