Useful for virtualized environment, node management, configuration deployment, and system management with artificial intelligence
I've worked with Dell and had the privilege of working with many OEMs. I started my career as a system engineer, working with HPE as a partner, and then moved to other OEMs like IBM and Lenovo. Currently, I work with a small team. I don't believe any solution is bad. It's just that you might not have identified what the solution is addressing. It's about choosing the right solution for your needs. In terms of hardware or infrastructure, it's an Intel platform. What differentiates everyone is the additional value they can provide. Dell has many values that meet customer needs. I look at the customer's objectives and requirements as an IT professional to find the best solution. I haven't seen any drawbacks regarding the infrastructure deliverables or the value built into the tool. However, Dell as an organization could improve its channel management. For example, we've been trying to resolve an issue with our portal for two weeks. I'd like to see more simplification regarding integration, deployment, and connectivity for future releases. In deployment, I'd like to see simplification in creating VNets and positioning VMware across nodes. I want a template that simplifies the creation of VNets and VMware positioning. I'd push for more simplification and an intuitive graphical GUI that simplifies things with just a click.

Good performance and stability with a straightforward setup
Typically, if a client needs support, they contact us and we are the ones to offer it to them. However, we have contacted Oracle technical support and we have a back-to-back contract with them. They support our HR on-site team. We also get support from Oracle functional services and backend support. They are usually quite good, but at times it depends on which engineer is working. When we get support from India, there's sometimes a delay. If it's from Europe or the US, often we get faster results. Time zones also affect technical support response times and will dictate who responds to our requests.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The most valuable feature of this solution is the speed."
"When they implemented VxBlock, they doubled the speed of their operations, as a process that used to take eight hours now only requires four hours, so they're getting a return in terms of performance."
"Customers use the Dell VxBlock System for new applications or solutions. For example, I'm working on a new mixing solution for a whole country in Africa. When we talk about it, there are many locations, and we're looking for efficiency, utilization, and solutions that can expand the application database we're deploying. It's used a lot for server consolidation and to consolidate environments into new ones for easy management. It's also used in health environments where they need to create infrastructure for products or solutions they want to launch to the market quickly."
"Integration with VMware and VMotion definitely brings a lot of value."
"The most valuable features of the solution would be its good default features and the compressions."
"Good flexibility and speed."
"The stability is good, we haven't had any problems and we're happy with the product."
"Good default features."
"It's improved the delivery of virtual machines and setting them up with WebLogic (Application Server)."
"We get better performance and utilization of resources since it was implemented, and it has helped to reduce the batch cycle from over 40 hours to about eight."
"The ability to have ZFS (shared file systems) with InfiniBand, and an InfiniBand connection to the Exadata database is very useful."
"There are many benefits of Exalogic, but I believe the most important point is production stability."
"It has improved the way my organization functions by migrating apps to one consolidated platform that is dedicated to WebLogic and Oracle apps."
"Scalablility: When we need to upgrade from an eighth-rack to a full-rack, the real downtime is less then an hour."
"When combined with other engineered systems such as Exadata, we have seen from 20% to 60% better performance overall with certain operations showing much, much improved execution times."
"This product offers a strong infrastructure with compute, storage, and network in a private cloud environment, enabling the organization to concentrate on business application development and improvement."

Cons

"Scalability is an area that needs to be improved."
"The hardware lifecycle is not documented very well."
"There is a need for single console management."
"For VxBlock, the consistency of disc quality could be improved."
"This solution does not support Hyper-V, and we would like the new version to be supported and certified to work with Hyper-V."
"The solution could use a clearer description of working methods to tell people more about its use cases."
"The only thing that I can say is when you procure the VxBlock, obviously you have to complete detailed questionnaires about your architecture including the configuration, et cetera. If you make a mistake on the implementation, then you need to rebuild the entire VxBlock. That is just a point of consideration rather than a flaw. You need to be absolutely sure and validate the upfront configuration information that you provide because your VxBlock comes delivered and built, according to that exact information."
"Its price is high. That's why people are now moving to hyper-converge."
"The solution is prone to disk failures. This needs to improve."
"I can't think of a single significant issue with performance or stability that was solved in less than nine months, and it is honestly the worst product I have ever dealt with."
"After this, you need to be prepared to rely on your team or the vendor support team because you’re going to face small but frequent issues."
"I would like to see more than four virtual disk capability in future versions of this product."
"The solution is prone to disk failures. This needs to improve. Over the past four years we've had to replace about six of them. They've failed almost every three to six months."
"It's very expensive. Oracle Platinum Services (patching) is terrible, and we haven't had a patching exercise occur without significant problems and often impact to production operations."
"Technical support makes my life difficult."
"EMOC (Oracle Enterprise Manager Ops Center) is not very user-friendly, the user interface could be improved."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Compared to other solutions, Dell VxBlock System is more expensive."
"We purchased this solution with a ten-year manufacturer warranty, and we have a three-year warranty with our local partner."
"Its price is high. That's why people are now moving to hyper-converge."
"To expand the hardware's capability requires a massive investment."
"Get the price of the license you will need for the middleware that will be running on top of the Exalogic. Otherwise, you can use another middleware solution, as long as it can run on top of Oracle Linux."
"Pricing and licensing are two very delicate aspects when talking about Oracle, especially engineered systems. The prices are quite high compared with other similar products, so the CapEx analysis and investment return have to be very well studied."
