Has offered a cost-effective option with solid results but requires automation features for better efficiency
For ExaGrid EX, I would appreciate additional features such as backup and restore, automation processes, and automation software for backup and restore processes. I mention that some additional features may be provided by VMware or Dell as support for the hardware they are selling, but ExaGrid EX is more of a budget-friendly solution for customers who are in charge on a daily basis of the solution itself, dealing with manual tasks rather than automated tasks. I am not in a situation to provide an exact answer for what I would specifically improve in this regard.

Positive impacts seen with improved data security and reliable support
I have six months of experience with the product, and as a consultant, the use cases for NetApp AltaVault mainly stand out for me. Regarding the deduplication feature in the product, I am interested in whether clients are using it. There are different integrations available with NetApp AltaVault, such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, and I want to understand how they impact data security policies in my case.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The most valuable features of ExaGrid EX are the Veeam features and Landing Zone."
"I find ExaGrid EX to be a useful solution for customers looking for a budget-friendly product."
"Both the pricing and the performance are excellent."
"Backup and restore processes are much shorter now, and we don't need forklift upgrades every three to four years."
"It took an entire silo of complexity and simplified it to a device in the cloud."
"Its initial setup is easy."
"AltaVault is very economical; you don't need big expertise to manage this product."
"The flexibility, being able to virtualize it, port it wherever I like, test my backups, test my DR capabilities whenever I like without impacting anybody, is great."
"We are getting rid of our tape libraries, so this is an alternative to that, we don't have to have 100s and 1000s of tapes, and we are going into the cloud, so this helps us go into the cloud while providing better security for backup data."
"Able to reduce administrative burden on tape management."
"Being able to move data seamlessly from one-premise to the cloud (Azure). It works great. The backup solution is perfect for us."
"The most valuable feature is the portability of large archived data, as you're able to put things on large on-prem, low-cost storage and then augment that with even lower cost storage in the cloud."

Cons

"The solution’s web access should be improved."
"I would like to see free disk space."
"ExaGrid EX is more of a budget-friendly solution for customers who are in charge on a daily basis of the solution itself, dealing with manual tasks rather than automated tasks."
"There are some bits it could do better. With tighter integration maybe with Veeam, or something like that, it'd be really good."
"The solution needs faster indexing."
"I don't actually use the solution."
"What could be helpful is different user base authentication so then maybe we could allow different customers to point to a single appliance and they only see the backups and things that they have."
"It's a good product, but it's becoming outdated and moving to their other primary architecture."
"NetApp's own competing products complicate things."
"I would like to see more web support."
"We've had a lot of issues, crashed the service console a lot, service crashes."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The renewal fee is approximately $3,500 to $3.750 for a 60 terabyte device."
"I rate ExaGrid EX ten out of ten for pricing."
"In one use case, and we have several, to run for a particular customer, the price is about $375,000 a year."
"The pricing is not too bad, but could be a little better."
"The price is a bit high."
"There is a need to make yearly payments towards the licensing costs attached to the solution, which comes to around 3,000 USD."
"You could compare it to a Dell EMC or ECS, and I think it's probably a little less costly than that. Within the marketplace, it's a medium cost."
"It's quite cost-effective."
"It is a rather expensive program."
