Multi-factor security has improved device protection but still needs broader application coverage
Fortinet FortiAuthenticator could be improved in its cost structure. Although it is not expensive, other solutions offer more value for less money. Cisco Duo provides better value in this regard and connects to web applications much more easily, scaling effectively in that sense. While I have never used Cisco Duo to secure other devices in IoT environments, I know Cisco Duo is capable of doing so, whereas Fortinet FortiAuthenticator cannot. Additionally, Cisco Duo is also cheaper. These are the main reasons why we switched away from Fortinet FortiAuthenticator, as it was very limited compared to other solutions available. Fortinet FortiAuthenticator was primarily missing the ability to scale to web applications.

The solution has high support capability.  The tool needs to improve its cloud service capability.  I have been working with the solution for 15 years.  I would rate the solution's stability a ten out of ten.  I would rate the tool's scalability a ten out of ten since it is highly scalable. We…

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Fortinet FortiAuthenticator stood out for its robustness and reliability."
"For FortiAuthentication, it's a good price in comparison to any other competitor."
"In terms of benefits, the tool provides both cost savings and efficiency, but efficiency is more important for our customers."
"I like the self-registration capabilities."
"I am really impressed by the technical support because they were very helpful; once we logged our complaint, we received an answer from them in no time, and they quickly fixed our issue."
"In my opinion, the main benefits that end users receive from Fortinet FortiAuthenticator include more security for their applications, for their systems, and for all their network devices that they are logging into."
"FortiAuthenticator is a very good solution. It is all jury-based. FortiAuthenticator is very easy for anyone to understand how it works and be able to take action."
"Once you configure it properly, it runs fine."
"The solution has high support capability."
"The product is quite good, and from my point of view, it can serve our requirements."
"The feature that I have found the most valuable is that they are open to connecting with any token. For example, a year ago, we were looking for a soft token, and we started to look for alternatives. They are open to connecting with any token that we looking for."

Cons

"The user interface and clustering are areas with shortcomings that need improvement."
"For scalability, you need to size FortiAuthenticator properly. It's not 100%, maybe 80% on the scalable side."
"There are some protocols, such as SHA and SHA-2, that are not supported."
"The technical support team is bad."
"I would like to see support for more credential authentication protocols."
"The one thing they used to include was the SMS gateway from the ISP; Fortinet used to sell that but they don't anymore and I think it would be helpful for end-users if they brought it back."
"The integration with third-party tools must be better."
"If you want some other FortiAuthenticator from one site to another site, you should have requirements, but really if you have authentication and directory or another solution, you should change the password of the authenticator between the solution and the directory and other things. So transfer of data and other information should be simpler."
"The user interface is not quite good and easy to use. There are a lot of menus, and the look and feel is not modern like a modern app."
"The tool needs to improve its cloud capability."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The licensing structure is cost-effective for us compared to some of the other solutions that have recurring monthly costs."
"The solution is not very expensive."
"When we buy the Fortinet FortiAuthenticator device there is a comparison between price and security."
"FAC is an affordable solution for Middle Range (200E/400E) and also needs a package of mobility agents (2,000) perpetual."
"You can pay as you go with them. You purchase a base license and add to it as needed."
"It costs more to license the high-availability option."
"The cost of the license could be less expensive. The license is paid on a yearly basis."
"The platform provides a user-based pricing model rather than a subscription pricing model."
"I would rate the solution's pricing a three out of ten. The tool's licensing is monthly."
