FusionAuth offers several valuable features that stand out to me: control, development flexibility, deployment flexibility, and extensibility. Unlike competitors, it allows me to host it anywhere. I can deploy locally via Docker or on Kubernetes, so I am using a hybrid approach. Another valuable feature is that there is no cap on scaling. Many CIAM providers use a pricing model that starts cheap and then spikes drastically based on monthly active users, but FusionAuth's pricing does not penalize growth—you pay on feature, not per user. The deployment flexibility has helped my team from an engineering perspective and directly solves some of our biggest infrastructure challenges. If an enterprise client requires all their auth data to remain within a specific AWS region, we can support that without changing our application code. FusionAuth has positively impacted my organization by providing significant engineering cost savings. Building and maintaining a secure, compliant authentication system is difficult and requires a dedicated engineering team. This solution helps us with both time savings and cost savings since we are a fast-paced startup. Additionally, it has led to improvement in developer velocity, as when authentication is decoupled, our development teams can ship features significantly faster while meeting strict enterprise compliance. Regarding specific outcomes or metrics, I can say our developer velocity has nearly doubled, as our engineering focuses more on developing features rather than dedicating resources to authentication systems. In terms of financial impact, there has been a 150% improvement.

Although I am a fan of Okta Platform overall, there are areas where it could improve security outcomes and reduce admin friction. My top improvement areas include the system log and analytics upgrade, which are great for point troubleshooting, but trending and root cause analysis across large tenants still require exporting to SIEM. Verbose queries and long-range retention costs can add up. Additionally, while certificate rotations are better than most, the process is still manual for busy portfolios, especially concerning multi-SP SAML certificate rotations and app metadata drift. Two more buckets of potential improvements for Okta Platform involve user experience and security. There is the issue of push fatigue and prompt sprawl, where users receive multiple prompts across different apps and sessions. I arrived at the rating of eight because the core controls are strong and reliable, but a few operational UX and UI gaps prevent it from being rated higher. The reasons for not giving it a nine or ten include ongoing issues concerning safety and change safety, the complexity of group rules and mappings, and the lack of robustness in policy management. Additionally, there remains a need for more manual involvement than necessary, especially for large portfolios and dual certificate rotation, along with proactive SP data metadata validation.

Pros

"Regarding specific outcomes or metrics, I can say our developer velocity has nearly doubled, as our engineering focuses more on developing features rather than dedicating resources to authentication systems."
"I can say it is more secure, more user-friendly, and integration with applications is easier."
"Okta Customer Identity is considered cheaper compared to other tools in the market, such as IBM and CyberArk products."
"I find the most useful feature of Okta Platform is that it allows the preconfiguration of multiple applications, eliminating the need for customized application onboarding, which is very helpful for me to configure multiple applications such as AWS, Azure, Zoom, Salesforce, and more than 1000 applications in Okta Platform dashboard."
"You can only log in if you have the access, which protects the applications by avoiding cross-site scripting."
"The most useful features of Okta for my organization are identity and access management, single sign-on, and the flexibility for hybrid setups."
"It has a wide range of MFA options. I prefer "Okta Verify" out of them all."
"If your use case is multi-cloud data centers and hybrid cloud architecture, Okta is a solution to go to."
"Okta Platform is absolutely stable, with no experienced lag, which ensures immediate action upon changes applied within Okta Platform, stabilizing operations in managing user accounts, identities, logins, and user profiles."

Cons

"FusionAuth could improve its UI customization for the admin console and enhance the documentation to make it more user-friendly."
"I think the setup in the beginning can be a bit of a learning curve."
"Sometimes authentication policies are a bit buggy in the sense that sometimes they really don't detect the correct browser that the user is using or there are issues related to the location of the user."
"Some limitations in scalability. Each application we work with can be completely different, resulting in highly variable implementation processes."
"A couple of improvements with the lifecycle management that will help companies that don't have an HRIS system to help manage contractors and contingent workers would be to add ways to disable their accounts once a certain time point is designated."
"Okta should have at least a local peering partner for countries that align with or comply with GDPR, so there are no compliance or audit questions."
"I would expect Okta Platform to include more features over time in their less expensive subscriptions."
"It was complex to implement password synchronization between AD domains."
"To improve Okta Platform, I suggest simplifying web manuals to be more understandable for non-technical users, making it easier for them to navigate both the API and user interface levels."

"It is costly for large companies."
"The solution is really expensive."
"The product's price is high. For each feature, a certain payment is required."

"Okta has fairly competitive pricing."
"I believe it competes well. The pricing is pretty competitive. I know that Microsoft also provides something similar with its MFA and identity services."
"The product is expensive compared to other vendors."
