Reliable and secure storage solution supports core banking operations effectively
The replication technology that Hitachi Virtual Storage Platform uses is quite older, and the replication methodology they employ for data between the data center and the production and standby database shows no significant improvement in that particular field. With respect to storage administration, I'd like to see more clarity on the encryption side; data being stored in an encrypted manner is essential, but the customer or end-user doesn't understand which encryption is being used and doesn't have a direct view stating that their data is encrypted using AES 256 or DES, or whatever standard they follow. This lack of transparency may not be acceptable during audits.

A stable unified storage system that enables quick access to data
The main thing Oracle can improve is the cost. It would be better if Oracle opened up the system to enable integration with other vendors. Whether it's the database, application server, or storage appliance, they should make it easy to integrate them. They need to open up more to ensure that it can work in any environment and IT ecosystem.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"I am happy about the storage system and availability."
"The most valuable feature of Hitachi Virtual Storage Platform G Series is the platform and overall usage has been good, and we have not had very many issues."
"This is a product that I don't think needs any improvement because I don't see any challenges."
"There are no significant challenges in terms of scalability, and it can accommodate larger storage capacities compared to other storage solutions."
"This solution is stable; it is the most stable high-end solution in this area."
"In terms of performance and ability, the product can stand up against its competitors since the solution offers two controller systems to users."
"Overall, we are very satisfied with Hitachi's product."
"In summary, this is a very good product but there's always room for improvement."
"I like its storage capacity, quick access to the data, speed, and overall storage management."
"Oracle Sun ZFS Storage Appliance is a very stable and durable product that's very strong and mature."
"Very good analytics Very easy to configure."

Cons

"Compared to others, Hitachi products are more complex and not user-friendly."
"The installation procedure it a bit difficult, because it is a high-end solution. With this type of product, the original company is interested in doing the setup for customers in the area, but because of sanctions we were not able to get support in our area. We faced many issued trying to learn to run this product."
"The initial deployment was somewhat complex when it came to the installation because of the network connectivity. It was more difficult, in this specific case, than with other platforms."
"For the support windows to work, maybe they have to upgrade the firmware of the VSP. They changed the hardware or the disk. I don't know if it was the port blade they changed or a VM for a memory cache. Also, replacing the old target with the processor target would be fine. The old equipment is very easy to manage, and I don't have any bad commentary."
"The user interface should be made simpler because it is difficult to manage."
"The solution is stable. However, there have been some software crashes where we had to restart the system. They could improve the hardware to prevent this type of issue."
"It seemed like every time we turned around it was a statement of work and we'd have to pay for something that our previous vendors would not have billed us for."
"With Hitachi, everything that regards the user experience has a big room for improvement. The user experience is pretty bad in Hitachi."
"Uptime. We had some crashes here and there."
"The main thing Oracle can improve is the cost. It would be better if Oracle opened up the system to enable integration with other vendors. Whether it's the database, application server, or storage appliance, they should make it easy to integrate them. They need to open up more to ensure that it can work in any environment and IT ecosystem."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The price is good enough considering the performance, and we are satisfied."
"Architecture-wise, it's actually at a competitive price point. It is not cheap."
"I give the price of Hitachi Virtual Storage Platform a nine out of ten."
"When you are looking for high-end solutions such as this, price is less important than stability and availability."
"The main difference between Hitachi and other vendors is the cost. At the time that we bought the solution, it was the best option but the price, compared to other vendors, is a little high."
"Hitachi Virtual Storage Platform is a very expensive product."
"I would like to see better pricing and more discounts."
"In our company, we only pay towards the licensing charges associated with Forcepoint, as Hitachi is considered to be a third-party product for us."
"The price could be better. We have many competing products now like Huawei and Dell EMC, and these are slightly cheaper."
