Uninterrupted upgrades accelerate performance with good support
I would rate the solution eight out of ten. It should be noted that in Pakistan, some parts are not readily available, and we need to import them from Singapore or other countries. We encountered an issue with a customer where the midplane failed and was not available. We had to wait for several days for a replacement, even in a 24/7 support case. Additionally, we faced motherboard failures in the customer's environment, encountering two motherboard failures simultaneously. We obtained one motherboard immediately, yet had to wait ten days for another. These issues should have been resolved promptly given the 24/7 support level.

Has the ability to automatically deal with faulty disks
In terms of the most beneficial features of the product, I would say that during the faulty disk replacement process, the tool automatically ungroups the faulty disk, so from the tool itself, anybody can identify which disk is faulty and then repair it. The data replication part is not enabled in the product that I use since the DRP feature is not enabled. I work with the product's high availability feature. Considering the size of the environment where the product is used, the product offers around 80 to 90 TB of storage space. I won't recommend the product to others who plan to use it. The implementation process of the product would be as per the standard of the organization where it is going to be used. Everyone should have their own organizational data structure as per the data orientation needs. I rate the tool an eight out of ten.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"From a comparison of bang for the buck, what you get for the money, I'd have to say they are one of the market leaders."
"Customer Service: We haven’t had any issues; we wanted white-glove treatment and that’s what we got."
"Its performance is good. We have a lot of applications that have high I/O, and 3PAR handles those with no problem."
"Multi-tier storage was the primary reason that we bought it. I also love the interface that you use for administering it."
"The most valuable feature of this solution is the native full mesh (multi-pathing)."
"Scalability, because our customer is fast growing and our solution should be able to start very small and grow very quickly."
"HP 3PAR by far has the best combination of great equipment, very good support, and good implementation staff."
"The most valuable features are the functions and the flash disks, which make our storage system much faster than previous systems."
"It is very stable."
"My most important criteria when selecting a vendor are price, dedupe, and compression."
"We cannot stop this SAN array; it has never failed since it was started, and we have not had a problem with it at all."
"The solution's most valuable feature is storage provisioning, which allows me to easily provision the disk space on the servers."
"It's fast, reliable, and it's very good for the price."
"There have been no fail-stop failures for the last five years."
"HPE has reliable support for HDD replacement."

Cons

"I would like to see the reliability improve. While it has been a good product, the QA of the product could be done a little more thoroughly."
"I would really love to see HPE add some cloud analytics."
"I give it an eight because of the support, that I can't get support in my country. This is the worst part. Support cannot be sold until we are out of the sanctions."
"Integration with some cloud services would be nice... We would like to be able to provision from the 3PAR and decide whether or not we are going to provision onsite or the cloud."
"It would be nice to have it as a core feature included in the product initially at no extra cost."
"I want an easier solution for provisioning new servers."
"I don't know if you can really fix this but to upgrade from 2 nodes to 4 can be a hassle because you have to re-balance everything."
"3PAR needs to keep on increasing its capacity."
"In general, my boss feels that HPE's prices are very high."
"It could be just this particular model, but the storage is not so stable."
"Performance could probably be improve with faster controllers, but it is already an old device. We do have performance problems now, but it is a rather old device, so we have what we have."
"I faced some issues during the disk replacement process in HPE EVA."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Since the prices of the flash storage has gone down tremendously, I would definitely recommend going for the all-flash storage array or 3PAR. It is a big expensive even now, but it will be the future of all industries."
"Performance is at least two times, if not three times, what we had previously."
"This is not an expensive product but every time you add capacity to it, you need to pay for re-balancing."
"We purchased the solution as CapEx and we only pay support now. I find the pricing fantastic."
"This product is quite expensive and in addition, we subscribe to 24/7 support with a four-hour response time."
"You can't get software maintenance from a third party. You have to do it from HPE, which is a letdown."
"This licensing fees for this solution are merged with all of our HP annual costs, which in total are a couple hundred thousand dollars."
"We are going to buy eight nodes this year and eight nodes next year. Eventually, we are not going to want to buy large storage devices and probably utilize just storage, but in a different manner going forward."

Measuring Up: EMC XtremIO and HP 3PAR
Leading up to EMC World 2015, IT Central Station asked how I would compare EMC XtremIO and HP 3PAR. Until recently, the flash storage conversation in my organization and many others has centered on XtremIO and Pure Storage, the leaders of the all-flash array (AFA) space. To that end, I've written a…
