Has improved performance for mission-critical workloads and enabled seamless non-disruptive upgrades
The availability is 99.99%, which is the main factor any customer would need because their data should be available whenever they want to access it. This is one main critical thing. It is very easy to upgrade since Pure Storage FlashArray handles it well. Everything is non-disruptive now; previously, there were forklift shifts, but now that is not the case. Pure Storage FlashArray says no to forklift upgrades. Usually hardware requires downtime, but Pure Storage FlashArray has improved their footprint so that they are not asking for downtime; everything is just a non-disruptive activity, which is why customers are more inclined towards Pure Storage FlashArray. Customers want more of the models in their environment due to the performance they are giving, and everything is in one Pure1 Array console where we can view all the models on one page or just an orchestration tool. You don't miss anything; you have replication, notifications about replication, and details about which host groups replication is happening in and if that replication is successful or failed. On a daily basis, our purpose is to create volumes for infrastructure; our daily activities include creating volumes and mapping them to the host, doing any migrations from a VM, clearing the data stores, and carving the volumes to those VMs. One key factor is the data compression with a ratio of 5:1, focusing on space efficiency, inline deduplication, and the compression Pure Storage FlashArray works on; that is a major factor we can suggest to any customer. Analytical capabilities are crucial. Daily, we check the throughput and consumption, and Pure Storage FlashArray provides predictions for one year regarding usage. This prediction helps plan updates well ahead. For support, we just raise a case, and they follow up and get it done. There is also AI readiness, but with the model R2, we don't have much of that AI readiness. For others, we do have AI readiness that predicts capacity based on daily or monthly trends, enabling us to analyze how much space we need or if we need to expand the disk shelf. From an operational point of view, a good feature is that if you accidentally delete a volume, it will be retained in the destroyed state for the next twenty-four hours, which is not the same with any other vendor. I have worked in this storage domain for the past fifteen years, and this option is remarkable, benefiting any L1 or L2 engineer. Additionally, from a compliance perspective, Pure Storage FlashArray has REST APIs enabled. I have not explored automation much, but from a security standpoint, it is strong with encryption data. If you want to automate, you can easily integrate with all clouds and explore Pure Cloud for scheduling workloads, including volume creation. Customers find benefit in Pure Storage FlashArray's single management pane of glass due to the dual controller and active-active setup. If one of the controllers goes down, all workloads automatically shift to the other controller, ensuring their data is safe and accessible at all times. This is a highlighted feature that any customer desires because their data should always be accessible. For SAN workloads, we use Pure Storage FlashArray because for SAN FC fiber channel, we don't use it; we use NetApp for NAS activities. We have clearly split this, so SAN is for mission-critical applications, while network-attached storage handles file systems. This architecture helps us maximize the benefit from Pure Storage FlashArray due to the significant workloads from this giant retail client. From a footprint and energy consumption perspective, you can see energy consumption from the Pure1 storage portal on a daily basis, and it is very compact. The three models we use consume only three units, which is quite low. From a footprint and data center perspective, it doesn't occupy much space. As everything moves to cloud, there are requirements to avoid excess spending on data centers, and Pure Storage FlashArray is efficient in energy consumption and is environmentally friendly.

Disintegrated all‑flash storage has boosted ERP performance and delivers instant operational insights
I appreciate that HPE Alletra Storage is an all-flash NVMe storage with a disintegrated architecture, allowing me to enhance performance without needing to add capacity. If I'm buying the Alletra MP 10000 right now with two controllers and 24 NVMe drives, I can simply add a single controller to boost my performance without being stuck with the limit of two controllers at a time for upgrades. Seamless integration with existing infrastructure is absolutely important to our organization's strategy because otherwise, I would need to redo everything repeatedly, which consumes significant time. We do use the AI-driven insights in HPE Alletra Storage. The AI-driven insights for Alletra MP 10000 greatly assist our data operations by providing immediate access to insights without going into the storage or asking the storage administrator for data. This enables any storage manager to easily obtain insights regarding performance, IOPS requirements, disk usage, and compression ratios from anywhere in the world. In terms of predictive analytics features, HPE Alletra Storage automatically opens and enriches support cases with diagnostics during any storage issues, which drastically reduces the mean time to repair and eliminates manual log collection, resulting in much higher efficiency in support automation.

A versatile storage solution suitable for various workloads in cloud environments providing scalable architecture, granular Quality of Service and consistent performance
The most significant benefit lies in its exceptional performance, driven by its Flash-based architecture. This enhances routing speed and, consequently, database performance. The provisioning process is efficient and doesn't demand higher latency, ensuring optimal data transfer performance which is particularly valuable for tasks like data mining, where quick results are essential.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The console is simple to use. It has good performance. It is easy to install, understand, and manage, with a good ratio of deduplication and compression. It is doing its job."
"For me, right now, it is the best storage solution in the market, by far."
"I like the speed, and I like the API and how programmable it is."
"The speed is one of the most valuable features of Pure Storage FlashArray."
"I used to have to manually sync storage from server to server, for multiple clusters and database storage for disaster recovery but now, that's all automated."
"Pure Storage FlashArray offers numerous valuable features, such as low latency and high throughput."
"My favorite feature about Pure Storage FlashArray is definitely the simplicity; in one word, it's simple to install, simple to upgrade, simple to maintain, and simple to manage."
"I cannot imagine my workflow without Everpure FlashArray because I do not have any other type of storage in use."
"HPE Alletra Storage comes with zero downtime, which is its best feature. It has real-time replication available, so no additional features need to be bought when purchasing the system."
"It's been providing us with insanely fast storage."
"The stability is incredible. We haven't had a single storage event since we put it into production."
"HPE Alletra Storage is 100% stable and is the best in the market, although slightly expensive."
"We are quite happy that we got that option and have implemented this option till the last level of our VMs, and our testing and our requirements were met successfully in this storage."
"The solution has been rock-solid since we've had it."
"The feature of HPE Alletra Storage that I appreciate the most is manageability; it has reduced the time I spend on capacity planning by about 50%."
"The most value aspect is the data reduction and compression."
"If you buy the solution for its specific purpose it will work well."
"If you're looking for an easy-to-implement solution from an all-flash perspective, really take a look at SolidFire."
"To my mind, it offers a unique combination that isn't easily matched in the marketplace."
"The product is stable and performs very well without any bugs."
"Given the ease, for the value of the product, it's a great thing to bring in and start going to the cloud with."
"It is very easy to scale up SolidFire."
"The square footage for doing development is at a premium when dealing with government networks. To be able to put a lot of IOPS in a lot of high-speed performing drives in a very small location which requires very little HVAC with very little power, it is very valuable to us."
"The most valuable feature of this solution is its scalability."

Cons

"Part of our company works on Dell EMC because Pure Storage did not have synchronous applications when we were purchasing our products."
"In the configuration, which we brought in or tested it in, it has a very limited config as far as the array goes. That said, it still did more than our anticipation."
"Had some issues with Purity not being entirely compatible with VMware ESXi."
"We would like to see more cloud support, which we know is coming, although it's not out yet. It's going to be released in the next versions. That would be the biggest win, if additional cloud support is built into the array."
"Data reduction is an area that needs improvement. There is a garbage collection service that runs but during that time, system utilization increases."
"I would like to have support available in Spanish."
"The price of Pure Storage FlashArray could be better."
"It would be beneficial to have a health check command that can be run from the CLI to ensure that all hardware components are functioning properly rather than having to enable remote access and connect to support for a health check."
"A negative aspect would be that I can only get pool utilization from InfoSight, not on the local array. I have to pull metrics every month from InfoSight, and it would be easier if it were just available on the local array."
"In my case, HPE Alletra Storage does not provide a cloud-like operational model on-premises for managing data infrastructure."
"It would be better if there were an option to incorporate the NVMe feature alongside other storage tiers. Currently, the system operates on Autotier but can manually peer and mix different types of drives, such as SAS and SATA drives."
"HPE Alletra Storage could be improved by adding support for file-based or S3 storage, as we have NetApp as our NAS storage."
"Licensing is always a challenge since nobody enjoys those costs, though having support going forward gives me peace of mind."
"HPE Alletra Storage could be improved with greater compatibility of the HPE KVM or VM hypervisor with our other products, which would allow us to migrate off of VMware."
"When you configure it, the system has to be connected to the Internet. Otherwise, you cannot configure it. That is the most difficult part. They need to have something that does not require a connection to the Internet."
"Reducing the price for HPE Alletra Storage would be fantastic."
"So feature-wise, I would say more reporting tools that could be merged into it."
"For example, the ease of use with the reporting. Right now it's not impossible, but you have to know Sequel. It's a little time consuming to get those customized reports in there."
"They could make the mNode more user-friendly. Now you need to configure and add nodes by CLI and it’s not really easy to manage. If they created a web interface to do the management of the mNode, that would be great!."
"When you set up the nodes, we have to serial into each one of these nodes to configure the IP ranges. It's still very easy, but it's time consuming."
"The scalability of HCI or SolidFire as such isn't a concern, but when you compare it to PowerMax or NetApp AFF series devices, scalability is a concern because it's only the drives that are connected to the nodes. We don't have any shelf connectivity."
"We had some false positives, power supplies failing, and that's really been about it. We had a couple of glitches during some upgrade processes but nothing that was really concerning to us."
"Though it is a stable solution, its users may face some security issues at times...The security provided by the solution is one area that can be improved."
"That's one of disadvantages, the actual cost."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The licensing is $100,000."
"I would prefer that they lower their pricing."
"The pricing of Pure Storage is all-inclusive. It is very fair, and very easy. In comparison, Dell EMC has licensing that needs to be added if you wan to work in a complex environment or in specific functionalities."
"Cost-wise, it's been very effective."
"Price per terabyte is substantially higher than their competition. We would like to see it drop."
"The best features come included without any additional cost."
"While more expensive than NetApp, Pure Storage FlashArray offers superior performance that often justifies the higher cost and adds value overall."
"The pricing is very attractive and it delivers performance for the money."
"The pricing is somewhat high, but when customers choose HPE, they often prioritize the brand value over pricing. The pricing is higher compared to other vendors."
"Overall, it was good. It had a good price per gigabyte."
"There is a license. HPE Alletra uses a cloud-based model."
"For us, its price is good."
"The solution is expensive and can cost around five lakhs."
"It is reasonably priced."
"Its licensing is good. Pricing-wise, there can be a little bit more flexibility. It would help to have different sizes. However, it fits into the budget that we have, so we are happy."
"So far, so good."
"It might be considered expensive, but when evaluating performance, it represents good value online because you pay for what you get."
"On a scale where one is a high price and ten is a low price, I rate the solution between three and four. It is an expensive solution."
"We would probably use SolidFire more, except we're getting more bang for our buck with our purchases of ONTAP right now, and the deal we made with NetApp, so it's more of just a cost decision"
"Based on what I heard from other people, its price was on the higher side."
"The price of this solution is more expensive than others."
