Near-zero downtime has protected critical workloads and now simplifies hybrid cloud recovery
The best features of HPE Zerto Software are mainly very sophisticated and relevant to the current market. The data protection CDP part has real-time replication, unlike other solutions that have snapshot backups. We can set it up hourly, making it ideal for use with workloads. Another attraction is the near-zero RTO, with automated failover within minutes and one-click failover and failback. Currently, we are using a hybrid cloud solution, and HPE Zerto Software supports multi-cloud environments, making it easy to migrate between on-premises and cloud. Regarding the impact of HPE Zerto Software on our RTOs, we have near-zero RTO, meaning the system must be back online within thirty minutes if we measure the time. It is very quick to recover services. With HPE Zerto Software's near-synchronous replication, we have some CDP protection, so we typically write interceptions along with some asynchronous replication. There is almost real-time replication available.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Zerto is very stable; we have never had a stability-related issue, and any potential issues are quickly resolved with alerts, with problems always tied to a specific VM rather than the platform itself."
"We did the PoC against five other products, and no one could touch Zerto on the technical side of it, at all, and that's besides the ease of use."
"It's given us a sense of trust that if we have to fail over in a DR situation, it's going to be kind of like Apple, it just works."
"The speed of recovery with Zerto is at least five to ten times faster, helping us reduce downtime during migrations that would have cost our company millions."
"The most valuable features of Zerto are the ease of use and recovery speed."
"Allows for semi-synchronic replication, even though it's hardware independent."
"It's easy to install."
"My organization has experienced the benefits of using the tool, which include the ability to test our disaster recovery quickly."
"It takes less time to replicate files between two servers."
"In Version 7.xx the most valuable feature to me is being able to carry out a test full server failover in which case the primary server is still up and running."
"Customer Service: Second to none Technical Support: Second to none"
"It gives us the possibility to migrate/protect customer servers and data in the simplest way."

Cons

"It is crucial for Zerto to collaborate closely with VMware in order to promptly test updates."
"There's one feature that SRM had that Zerto doesn't have, and it's one that we've been asking for. With the orchestration part of the failover, with our DR and our primary sites, the IP addresses are almost identical. The only difference is one octet. With SRM, we could say during a failover change. With Zerto, we keep hearing that it's coming, but we haven't received it yet. It's a feature that would be very beneficial. It would reduce the time a little bit more."
"Zerto's documentation is outdated. I'm finding it hard to find documents related to my questions. Their documentation is bad."
"I would appreciate more integration with vCenter in the next release and how we can protect our production servers and automatically get them put into a VPG."
"Our operational teams have discussed the ability to integrate multiple Zerto cloud platforms more seamlessly. For example, we have acquired 22 companies over the last seven years. Some already had it deployed, and integrating those existing deployments into our primary deployment is more challenging than it could be. We have provided our feedback to them."
"Once you start getting involved with the public clouds, it gets a little clunky. Again, I don't fall down totally on the HPE side. It's the public cloud that may be at issue."
"The ease of setup can be improved in the next release of HPE Zerto Software."
"I would give technical support a nine out of ten. I'm taking away a point because, at times, they send emails for me to read when I need something done immediately."
"Yes I encountered issues with deployment. The information provided in the guide just stated about 2 or 3 communication ports but even after these ports are enabled there are still issues with the 2 servers communicating via Double-Take."
"Not such a good coverage of the most widely used Linux server distributions, so many issues happen while migrating these servers."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Pricing is adequate at the standard of the product, but there could be "always" some improvement. We would like to see a consumption model that would charge in a DR scenario, where you're failing over and consuming those resources, instead of a per-protected-node model."
"The pricing seems reasonable. It's still within what we consider to be value-add."
"Zerto is fairly expensive, but worth it."
"Zerto previously had a perplexing licensing structure, but they have since resolved it by implementing a unified license."
"If you are an IT person and you think that DR is too expensive then the cloud option from Zerto is good because anyone can afford to use it, as far as getting one or two of their criticals protected."
"Zerto's pricing is competitive, given the benefits and ease of setting it up. It may seem more expensive upfront, but you're going to save that over the long term by spending less engineering time configuring, reconfiguring, etc."
"I would like to see different service levels. They're good, but it still takes a lot of our budget in ops."
"All of my customers are happy with how this product works and they like it, but unfortunately, in the market that I represent, Zerto is expensive when compared with the competition."
