Virtualization has improved proactive maintenance and observability for complex clustered workloads
Hyper-V could be improved in terms of performance of live migrations. I notice that in VMware, vMotion, which is the same concept as live migration, is faster than in Hyper-V. It is not that it does not work, but in terms of performance, VMware ends up being better for these virtual machine moves.I do not think there is anything else I would like to add regarding necessary improvements related to the interface, stability, or support. The interface is great and very intuitive. Support is also very quick and functional from Microsoft when a problem occurs. Once the environment is very well configured, there should not be problems in Hyper-V. The main area I would improve is mostly the performance of virtual machine migrations. If this migration performance were improved, I believe Hyper-V would reach a perfect score.

Significant backup for containers, but the customer service is terrible
Anyone considering this solution should not compare it to the old versions. They should be a partner with Virtuozzo and run all the certifications. Also, they need a good lab to understand the technology and how they can apply that technology conveniently. This is very commercial software. It does not have support, so you will need to be hands-on. I would rate Odin Virtuozzo a six out of 10 overall.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"I definitely track savings in terms of time saving and money saving."
"The Failover Clustering feature allows us to be able to make our most critical workload highly available."
"For me, the setup of Hyper-V was an easy process, which took only one hour from start to finish."
"The organization has realized the benefits on smaller data center space, power, cooling, etc. apart from the benefit that the virtualization layer brings in."
"With the Windows data center, I can have an infinite number of virtual machines."
"The product is easy to manage. It improves our VM management."
"It makes it easier to deploy service. All service tends to migrate onto the server house without having problems now. It is hardware independent."
"By the end of 2014, the number of server racks came down to 10 and we could confidently run majority of the workloads on Hyper-V."
"When you run templates on the containers on Virtuozzo they have a lot of back-ups."

Cons

"We would like to have a cloning function added to this product."
"Cannot copy paste within the app. Some bugs were not fixable and I had to reinstall core OS."
"In my opinion, it would have been better to truncate the site-to-site replication."
"I would rate Hyper-V a six out of ten because it is missing a lot of features."
"The support from Microsoft is very slow."
"We have our cluster connected to a Dell EMC VNX (SAN). The Hyper-V nodes are on Cisco UCS blades, and everything is interconnected via fiber. I attempted to use a virtual Fibre Channel connection to present a SAN volume to a VM but was not able to make that work."
"The costs in regards to upgrading the solution are quite high and it deters customers from changing versions."
"The weak point I see in Hyper-V is related to the licensing part. If we create a new VM, we have to get a new license, which I see as not good for Hyper-V."
"Odin Virtuozzo has poor support and needs to improve."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"I recommend Hyper-V to customers with budget constraints."
"Hyper-V is expensive."
"Hyper-V is included in the Microsoft Azure license for no extra cost. However, they charge for technical support calls on an hourly basis."
"The pricing isn't too bad, because you can do the bare metal hypervisor, and it is pretty fair. Other competitors are more expensive."
"The Hyper-V pricing and licensing are very good."
"The licensing is good for a data center environment."
"Microsoft recently tacked on a higher price for their software to use the storage migration in the Storage Spaces Direct array. That was just terrible."
"Microsoft Hyper-V is not expensive and is easy to set up."
"The license for Odin Virtuozzo is based on consumption on demand."

Hyper-V 2012 R2 vs. VMware vSphere 5.5
I was won with Hyper-V 2012R2 recently and the table below based on customer RFP (edited). This articles all about technical, there is not related with TCO/ROI, licensing cost, “political”, etc. Another to noted is the Windows Server 2012 licenses is based on 2 socket CPU, meanwhile…
