Useful features, stable, easy to deploy, and works well
Its logging can be improved. When something goes wrong, it is not always very easy to find the problem. It is hard to identify whether the problem is because of low memory in the server or some configuration in Rational Build Forge. The error logs are not very detailed, and they should provide more information. It should also have more integration with third-party tools. It would be great to have more integration with third-party tools.

Versatile agent support boosts builds but UI and setup costs need refinement
TeamCity's user interface could be improved; specifically, the tree structure on the homepage is not clear, making it difficult to search for projects. Moreover, there are some limitations related to the version we were using. For instance, there were issues with agent specifications for particular build jobs and a timeout issue where jobs running longer than three hours would fail automatically.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"All features are useful; our customer doesn't have any complaints about the tool, and it works pretty well for what they want and what they need to do."
"I utilized the reporting features and a number of documents, as well as statuses."
"Very good reporting features."
"The flexibility of TeamCity allows it to fit in workflows that I have yet to imagine."
"TeamCity is very stable, is easy to set up and maintain, and once everything is configured there is almost zero time needed to maintain it."
"With Teamcity, our build/packaging process and the ensuing deployment via Octopus Deploy takes less than half an hour."
"I spend less time scripting to get a build working and more time configuring TeamCity through its web-based front end."
"One of the most beneficial features for us is the flexibility it offers in creating deployment steps tailored to different technologies."
"Using TeamCity and emailing everyone on fail is one way to emphasize the importance of testing code and showing management why taking the time to test actually does saves time from having to fix bugs on the other end."
"I have not yet implemented the remote build feature, but this will be a big plus. We want to be able to build legacy products on a build agent without developers needing to have obsolete tool sets installed on their local PC."
"There is much online documentation for TeamCity, with certain learning materials such as videos."

Cons

"The solution could be more user friendly."
"Its logging can be improved. When something goes wrong, it is not always very easy to find the problem."
"Not user friendly for the layman."

"The integration between other solutions and TeamCity could be smoother."
"This product lacks real reporting for all the information it captures; we should be able to create reports or dashboards for management."
"Setting up build configurations involves too many steps, as the process is too much broken down."
"We've called TeamCity tech support. Unfortunately, all their tech support is based in Europe, so we end up with such a big time crunch that I now need to have one person in the US."
"Integrating with certain technologies posed challenges related to time and required support from the respective technology teams to ensure smooth integration with TeamCity."
"Features I would like to see in TeamCity: Allow for shared resource locks across multiple build configurations (i.e. deploy then run integration tests against the same environment)."
"REST API support lacks many features in customization of builds, jobs, and settings."
"The upgrade process could be smoother. Upgrading major versions can often cause some pain."
