Global Principal Cloud Architect at a computer software company with 10,001+ employees
Stable with excellent speed and agility
The most valuable aspect of the solution is simply to have the ability to host in a cloud form and out of the data center - the IBM big iron solution. It's the speed and the agility that really sell SoftLayer. The ELT versus ETL extract, transform and load versus extract, load, and then transform, the ELT method is what really sells SoftLayer. The ability to extract act from your current location, load into your future location, with limited change, and then be able to take the transfer actions slowly and methodically after you're in your new location is the part that really makes this awesome. The stability and scalability are quite good.

Centralizes data for analytics and reporting but has raised cost and support concerns
The main benefit of Microsoft Azure File Storage is that we have a lot of solutions from Microsoft. That was one of the reasons why we chose the Azure cloud because we have a lot of Microsoft stack and those can be integrated well within Azure. That is one of the architectural considerations we took into account when deciding to stay with Microsoft instead of going for GCP or AWS. The key benefit from Microsoft Azure File Storage is that we work in one Azure environment. We have Power BI and other Microsoft tools that are already well integrated within Azure, and since we purchased a lot of licenses, we get a discount along with various other architectural constraints. Existing tools might not integrate well, which might cause challenges if we go for another vendor. I really appreciate Microsoft Azure File Storage mostly because it is cheap to store the data. That is one of the reasons.

Pros

"The stability is the solution's most valuable aspect for our organization."
"The ability to extract from your current location, load into your future location with limited change, and then be able to take the transfer actions slowly and methodically after you're in your new location is the part that really makes this awesome."
"The solution is highly stable."
"The ELT versus ETL extract, transform and load versus extract, load, and then transform, the ELT method is what really sells SoftLayer."
"Very user-friendly and intuitive."
"Overall, I think Microsoft Azure File Storage is workable, but you really need to make a design to make it redundant."
"The interface, configuration, and integration were all good features, it is very easy to use, the integration in particular is very good, we could access the files from our laptops through the portal, we have the files wherever we want and that was the goal of this POC, technical support was great, the customization capabilities are excellent, it is very good at file storage, the product is easy to set up, and it's a scalable solution."
"While there are some areas for improvement, Azure File storage is, overall, a highly comprehensive solution which ticks all the boxes for us."
"The tool offers a secure way to access storage. You can also easily share the files securely across Azure."
"The most valuable feature of Microsoft Azure File Storage is the cloud file storage capability."
"Implementations with other products are easy."

Cons

"Importing and exporting data needs to have a bit more documentation."
"For stability, I would rate it a seven. I do not have exact downtime with Microsoft Azure File Storage, but there are a few technical issues that need to be fixed within the Azure ecosystem."
"It would be good if they added some features that make the solution easier to access for everyone."
