Creating internal architecture content has become smoother but embedding linked diagrams still needs work
I'm not currently working with IBM, IBM Controller, or other IBM tools. I still do a little bit of work with my previous company, but it's very minor. I don't work with any software or solutions outside of personal productivity suites such as Microsoft Office and things of that nature. I use Microsoft suite, Exchange, Teams, and so on. Microsoft Office SharePoint Server is more accessible for the average user, but it lacks certain features that more advanced users would look for, making it seem unnecessarily complicated to do simple things or things one expects to be simple. I'm not directly involved in pricing and licensing, but I work closely with people who are, and my company has a third party to help manage licensing. I don't have the impression that Microsoft is regarded as particularly expensive. The product was licensed directly from Microsoft. I would give Microsoft Office SharePoint Server a rating of seven points on a scale from zero to ten, where ten is the best.

Collaborative work has transformed team retrospectives and now saves us major planning time
I do not think that there is any improvement needed in Microsoft OneDrive for Business because a lot of features are already provided in the package that we have purchased, and we do not have anything that would be improved as of now. Speed-wise, Microsoft OneDrive for Business is very fast. Sometimes I think the auto-save feature of the things that we edit should also work in offline mode for some time, because once we get disconnected, I sometimes feel that the Excel or the Word document is trying to connect to Microsoft OneDrive for Business and trying to save it, but somehow the sessions expire. I sometimes want this to not happen. It can reconnect to the server when connection is up, but I can still work on the document.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"This product is useful because when I go to the client place I can use my credentials, I can log in and I can share whatever I want to share from SharePoint Server."
"Using these features together, we converted our paper work to electronic digital data."
"I believe the control and the restrictions, accesses that we can have once we decide to share any document through Microsoft Office SharePoint Server, are the most beneficial aspects for me."
"I like the collaboration, the ability for multiple users to work on a single document and be able to firstly collaborate and share notes about the document, as well as being able to work on the document without losing the information."
"The Microsoft Office SharePoint Server is a main feature of Microsoft, and I use it for everything I share inside the organization and outside the organization; it's easy to use, easy to share, and easy to manage all SharePoint services."
"The solution is pretty easy to use for the most part."
"The most valuable feature is the "Alert Me", which provides the ability to set an alert when content is either added or changed and that the alerts can be either real-time or aggregated for the day or the week."
"The most valuable feature of this solution is the Communication Site."
"The best features in Microsoft OneDrive are that it makes the files available from around the world, so users are not tied to a computer."
"When we were sharing through it, it was a great tool for that purpose."
"Using this software, it has had an amazing impact moneywise on our business."
"Ability to share documents."
"Microsoft OneDrive for Business is very stable and very good."
"It is well integrated with other Microsoft products."
"We have been able to save around 600 million Naira in staff costs on cloud and on-premise storage."
"Scalability is good just because it is a cloud-based product."

Cons

"The ability to preview files in different formats should be expanded to include formats such as embedded postscript (EPS), AutoCAD, and Adobe Acrobat PDF."
"It is a bit restrictive to develop in the cloud version. A lot of features are in the cloud now, and you have to develop on the outside. As far as the platform and the programming side of things are concerned, it is moving more towards configuration management rather than programming. When we are doing solutions, we are basically just configuring it to make solutions happen rather than actually using the Visual Studio code and developing from scratch in the cloud. It is almost like creating an app. You have created an app for your phone, but the app doesn't really sit on your phone. It sits somewhere on a server, and the database sits on another server. The app is just pulling and pushing information. The whole development has changed. We used to install things directly on the server and then run the application from the server. Now, it is more of a modular architecture."
"The permission management features need improvement."
"The search functionality on the on-premises version is not very good."
"I would like to see more Agile techniques and seamless integration with other applications."
"Microsoft Office SharePoint Server is a mega, giga tool, which means there are some cumbersome aspects because it can be complicated at times to migrate a list to a group in Teams."
"The workflow is very rudimentary."
"The user interface needs improvement because there is a lot of stuff in there. I use five to eight navigation buttons. It should be more user-friendly. Frequently used menu items should be arranged in a proper way. That would be helpful."
"The user interface of Microsoft OneDrive for Business could be improved."
"They were terrible for support after COVID hit."
"The initial setup is not easy."
"The user interface sometimes fails and when it cannot connect, it does not give the reason why."
"Regarding Microsoft OneDrive for Business's versioning control, sometimes there are syncing problems."
"An online video player would be great, since sometimes you have to download the video to play it."
"The technical support is really very bad."
"The user interface could be a little more intuitive and user friendly."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It can be expensive for on-premises deployments, especially when you have to support SQL Server as your backend database. That's where the cost comes into play. SQL Server has its own licensing, which Microsoft keeps on changing. Therefore, it can become costly. In the earlier versions of SharePoint, version 2007 or 2010, they had an express version where the SQL Server licensing was free. It wasn't like a full-blown SharePoint. It was only a slimmed-down version. It used to be whatever your hardware costs. You would install the free software and work with it, but you were very limited in what you could do in SharePoint. If you wanted the SharePoint Enterprise Server with all the bells and whistles, then you had to pay more to get the SQL Server license based on the number of users or servers. The subscription model is different for cloud deployments. Licensing is per user and per month. The cost also depends on the storage required. If you have a lot of sites or documents, then you need to expand it based on your needs."
"There are some aggressive discounts offered by Microsoft for organizations that are not for profit, which we are, and it makes it quite attractive to consider."
"One of the reasons why we don't recommend the cloud version of SharePoint is the cost. With the on premise version, you pay for the license once. For the cloud version, there is a recurring fee. It is very expensive. They expect everyone to pay $20 or $30 per user per month."
"Pricing plans may be flexible depending on volume usage and your corporate relationship with Microsoft."
"OneDrive comes with Microsoft 365 so it is just an added part of that package."
"We pay a lot for the Enterprise version, but it is a premium service."
"The price of Microsoft OneDrive is reasonable and compatible with competitors."
"Costwise, it is a great option. In most cases, it is a free space, which will be more than enough for most customers."
"This is a pricy solution, given that we are only using it at 50% capacity."
"Using this software, it has had an amazing impact moneywise on our business. It allows us to share documents without the need of extra hardware."
"It is free if you are using Office 365, and you get a terabyte of storage with your account."
"The licensing is expensive and on a yearly basis."
