Monitoring has improved bandwidth insights and application diagnosis but setup and costs still need work
They need room for improvement about the spare parts. There are shortages in Egypt in their stock. We tried to make RMA for specific parts, and it took a long time. Comparing this to a vendor like Cisco, who provides any component next business day, NETSCOUT nGeniusONE took a long time. This needs more improvement. I believe it is expensive. They need to reduce its budget a little bit. Comparing to other solutions, it is very expensive.

Dynamic discovery and effective network topology make IT monitoring valuable
The solution enables dynamic discovery and incorporates a powerful configuration management database, CMDB, along with a strong correlation engine. It covers the entire span of the infrastructure, including servers and network operations. It also adapts well to different environments, showing network topology effectively, making the network monitoring tool quite valuable.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Giving our customers the power to have some visibility into their own traffic has been a huge return on investment."
"When it's implemented properly, and the training is there to use the interface and have it work in your company, and people understand it, it can be very effective."
"It has versatility to correlate different traffic types and performance management statistics."
"The product is very good. We have very few problems."
"Because we are doing proactive monitoring instead of reactive, the end users don't even see that there is something wrong."
"The packet-based searching capability of NETSCOUT is highly valued as it allows us to better analyze the network."
"Valuable features include data threat detection, network analytics, and overall bandwidth monitoring."
"The solution gives us increased visibility while conducting an IT deployment, recording data all the time so we have the before picture and the after picture, and in areas where we have instrumentation, we have seen a measurable decrease in mean time to know and mean time to repair."
"We can detect non-compliant devices and automate remediation actions to cover the gap in the configuration standards."
"The solution enables dynamic discovery and incorporates a powerful configuration management database, CMDB, along with a strong correlation engine."
"When it comes to customization, Micro Focus is more mature than its competitors."

Cons

"We would like more encryption of customer data, because we have a very security conscious company. We have a lot of regulation coming in which requires us to make customer data private."
"A lot of tools highlight what's going on but they don't actually pinpoint the user experience. It would be good if there were a small message or something highlighting what the user experience is like and any degradation that's actually occurring."
"Some help screens would be nice, especially if we bring on new operators. It would be great to see if they have more helpful tips available."
"The technology goes end-of-life on us every year, which is why I am looking forward to vSTREAM. I don't like when devices go end-of-life on us so quickly. If we can get more of an advanced notice of when an end-of-life is brought up, because our certification process within the organization takes a while."
"Comparing this to a vendor like Cisco, who provides any component next business day, NETSCOUT nGeniusONE took a long time."
"The single pane of glass feed still needs work."
"There is a big issue with the special way they use InfiniStream to store data."
"The initial setup was complex, and deployment took around six months."
"Micro Focus Network Management doesn't support end-to-end monitoring of cloud infrastructure."
"The user interface is outdated and needs improvement, especially for service and topology maps."
"Micro Focus Network Management doesn't support end-to-end monitoring of cloud infrastructure. Micro Focus might have different cloud solutions for cloud automation and hybrid cloud management. There are a lot of products that also support automation. That is different, but it should monitor the cloud from an IT operations management perspective."
"It may need a more customizable UI."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"To capture more with the solution that we bought, you have to buy another InfiniStreamNG, and there are only four ports in the back."
"The biggest problem we have with this product is the expense."
"The platform is expensive."
"I rate the price of NETSCOUT nGeniusONE a four out of five."
"The scalability is good, but it comes at a cost. E.g., if you need 100 InfiniStream because you are sending gigs or terabytes of data to one InfiniStream, then you will have to purchase another InfiniStream, which are not cheap."
"Licensing is quite expensive."
"The scalability becomes very expensive quickly."
"Their pricing is very competitive with other solutions... But what I like about NETSCOUT's licensing is that it's shared across all their platforms. They don't create a new licensing scheme for every one of their products. So for nGeniusONE, you buy a certain license level, and it works on all of their products."
"Micro Focus' price is on the higher side, but there are other products like CA products and IBM that are more expensive. At the same time, you have to compare the maturity level of the solutions."
