Data projects have grown rapidly and support complex analytics and quick dashboard delivery
Some things that could be improved in Oracle Analytics Cloud is definitely the way it works. In some cases, for example, if you want to create analytic functions such as the percentage of a measure over another, which is a straightforward question you might ask, it appears simple to do, but the result is not what you expect. I would make it more user-friendly in terms of creating new measures. The measure creation feature could be improved. In terms of functionality, there are not many functions that are completely missing. There is one aspect that if you compare it with Power BI from Microsoft, which works completely in memory and therefore puts everything in memory to allow many calculations on the fly on what is in memory, that is missing, but it is architecturally different and would not be possible to ask for something like that. Some time features and time series analysis functions could be improved. Calculating a year ago and previous period functions could definitely work with some improvement.

I cannot remember specifics, but there were one or two times when I wanted to build something in a dashboard but Sigma would not let me compute the math in the way that I wanted to compute it. It felt like it was a little bit limited in ability because there were very specific functions and specific mathematical computations that Sigma allows you to do, and if you want to do something outside of that, it did not seem like it was possible. There was one time where even with a Sigma support agent, we could not figure out the most effective way to accomplish the task and run a query that we wanted to. Expanding features and abilities and functions within Sigma could be one way to improve Sigma.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The technical support is excellent, and they respond quickly."
"This solution is not that well known by clients but is a great product to use."
"Data preparation is fantastic and fast. We were able to use multiple data sources and prepare the data quickly."
"The stability of the product itself by virtue of the fact that it's a cloud product and Oracle is responsible for its hosting is valuable."
"It's robust. It has the ability to handle massive amounts. After reporting has been developed, there is an ease of use or a user-friendly interface for a trained workforce."
"The specific capability I find important in Oracle Analytics Cloud is that it allows the basic user to easily drag and drop data. I also like that the solution allows the user to decide what to measure and what to see in the reports."
"The solution can scale."
"Using this tool, we were able to forget about using Excel and keep using it as the only source of data."
"Sigma is valuable because you can do pretty much anything you need to do within Sigma."
"I find the collaborative features, such as commenting, to be very valuable."
"Sigma is a great software for non-technical business users. If someone's familiar with pivot tables or Excel or Google Sheets, they should be able to pick up Sigma pretty quickly. There is a very low bar for onboarding."
"Sigma serves as the visualization and reporting front end."
"Sigma has positively impacted my organization because I think it has been a huge impact, and we use it for all our reporting and our dashboards for tracking."
"Sigma has excellent features, such as lookup tables where you can easily bring data that are not interrelated or at different granularity."
"Sigma has positively impacted my organization by creating a culture that we are trying to add to all processes, simplifying our processes and improving our analysis effort."
"Sigma's customer support is excellent, and that is actually one of the other reasons why we ended up going with Sigma, as we are able to hit the question mark and ask for support and get real live people that are very knowledgeable."

Cons

"It should simplify data connectivity and modeling, making data extraction more streamlined and adaptable for diverse use cases."
"The product should improve its user interface. It should be welcoming and modern. Developers should also find it easier to build data models. Oracle Analytics Cloud needs to have better visualizations and more options in the marketplace."
"The learning curve should be improved, and I'm uncertain if tutorials are readily available or easily accessible. We may have resorted to looking on YouTube for such information. Having easily understandable documents or guides for new users would be beneficial. AI integration would be an interesting feature to add in the next release."
"When you implement the product on a small scale, it doesn't generate any ROI."
"One area of improvement is associated with more connectors needing to be added such as Microsoft OneDrive, Teradata and a few others. I think the list is limited to the top ones now."
"Sharing dataflows is not possible at this time, and the custom chart functionality is not available."
"When you want to scale up and improve the computing power, it becomes extremely costly."
"The migration of older dash tools from the classic interface of Oracle BI prior to OAS launch to the newer Data Visualization and Oracle Analytics Cloud interfaces, including dashboards and metadata, is currently a cumbersome process. Improvements in this area would be highly beneficial. Additionally, the administration of the cloud, particularly the startup of services and linking of the WebLogic server and integrated components, takes longer than desired. In today's enterprise landscape, waiting forty minutes for the server to be operational is quite lengthy; ideally, this process should take a maximum of four minutes. It would be excellent to incorporate metadata management as an integral part of the Oracle Analytics Cloud. When dealing with integrated data from various sources, tracking data lineage and the entire data life cycle, from sources to report development and the mapping of reports to specific dashboards, should be seamlessly managed within the Oracle Analytics Cloud. This would eliminate the need for additional tools. Drawing a comparison, tools like Tableau have a feature enabling metadata management, making it easier to trace the complete data lineage of reports. Managing over seven hundred and thirty-six business dashboards, the metadata management capability within Tableau simplified the process of understanding how reports were developed, including details like associated tables, users, linked views, materialized views, data segmentations, ETL jobs, and the data warehouse stages. Enhancing metadata tracking within the Oracle Analytics Cloud layout would facilitate easy and practical management of the complete data life cycle, encompassing user accessibility and report permissions."
"It felt like it was a little bit limited in ability because there were very specific functions and specific mathematical computations that Sigma allows you to do, and if you want to do something outside of that, it did not seem like it was possible."
"I would like to see better visualization options. That would allow me to build out more visually pleasing dashboarding in Sigma."
"I think Sigma can be improved because, for the last ten months since I first started here, this is my first time ever using it, and I think there is a steep learning curve."
"The main improvement needed is in data modeling capabilities. If they add those features in the near future, it would be very helpful for us to implement the same or do the data cleansing part in the Sigma tool itself."
"Sigma lacks a versioning feature to track changes. There is a need for better structuring, like a folder system, to organize diagrams efficiently."
"Sigma could have better reports."
"Sigma can be improved in terms of speed; it would be great if it could process the data even faster."
"I think Sigma's dashboarding has room for improvement."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"I would rate it a five out of five in terms of the value received for the price charge."
"The product’s pricing is expensive. However, feature-wise, it fits the requirements of enterprise customers."
"I don't know the exact cost, but its pricing was good. Its pricing was competitive. I would rate it a three out of five in terms of pricing."
"The tool's pricing is not unreasonable or non-competitive."
"It is an expensive platform."
"A highly cost-effective solution"
"Bottom line, the cost is really, really cheap compared to other solutions. Oracle has made a huge effort on the pricing."
"Oracle Analytics Cloud's pricing is generally higher than that of other vendors."
"The retail price is set at one thousand dollars per creator per year."
