Risk-based triage has transformed container security and now prioritizes high-impact threats
The best features Qualys TotalCloud offers currently include managing cloud infrastructure and container security while facing major challenges such as alert fatigue. Traditional vulnerability scanners flag hundreds of CVEs on short-lived Kubernetes containers, some of which have no internet exposure or are gone before we can even triage them. I leverage Qualys TotalCloud to move beyond static CVSS. I use it to implement runtime exposure, correlation risk reprioritization, and shift-left integration. This notifies developers to fix a base image upstream rather than patching live ephemeral instances. In my work with cloud and container security, the biggest operational hurdle was alert fatigue. I use Qualys to shift left from static CVSS severity to context-aware risk prioritization. I correlated raw vulnerability data with real-time risk factors such as public network exposure, active runtime execution, or overly permissive IAM roles. This allows us to immediately drop the priority of isolated containers and escalate lower-severity CVEs that sit on an exposed, high-risk path. We can map these findings directly back to our CI/CD pipelines so developers can patch the root base images upstream. We have drastically cut down the signal-to-noise ratio, saved a lot of manual hours doing triage work, and ensured engineering effort goes directly towards high-impact risk reduction.

Scales well and technical support is good, but it is expensive
The majority of our customers nowadays are looking forward to having cloud-based control models. However, some of our clients have to keep their data in their own data center in order to satisfy compliance. In summary, compared to the other products that are available in India, technical support and scalability are good. Overall, it is a very good product. That said, there are other tools that meet the feature requirements and are more cost-effective. I would rate this solution a six out of ten.

Manages vulnerabilities effectively over time but needs improvement in web coverage and dashboard flexibility
Most of the dynamic asset tagging we use is manual, not dynamic. To manage the assets, we employed the manual approach because we have a limitation regarding the license, so we don't use the dynamic approach much. I don't know how the configuration assessment has assisted with meeting compliance standards. The product that we use is the on-premise solution where we configure assets and dynamically scan them. However, we use the default policies more, the template, so Rapid7 InsightVM on-premise version is not that effective in the web-related systems. However, it is best on the OS to identify and discover the OS-related vulnerabilities, more of open ports and the discovery of vulnerable ports or services. It would be better to improve Rapid7 InsightVM by including or working better to add web-related templates because it's not that effective in regard to web. I don't know if they may have a separate product regarding the web, but for the on-premise type, they are not strong in this area. I would prefer to see web-related templates in addition to improving the dashboard-related things because the dashboard has been constant for a very long time. It would be better to see various kinds of, perhaps a flexible type of dashboard. If it's not customizable at all, I would want to see the risk and asset over time with more flexibility. The current dashboard is not flexible in this regard; I have to dig down every day, so they should work on this as well, in addition to the web.

Quotes from Members

Pros

"If someone were to ask me to review Qualys TotalCloud, I would summarize it as an end-to-end solution for cloud security with visibility and governance-grade controls without needing to manage multiple disconnected tools."
"Once you have your vulnerabilities fixed and your patches pushed out using Qualys TotalCloud, then you are able to eliminate threats and cyber risk."
"TotalCloud has been excellent in providing us with immediate access to all the products and features we need, such as CSPM, TruRisk Insights, and compliance reports, including CIS and HIPAA."
"I would recommend Qualys TotalCloud to other users because it is cost-efficient and has a good return on investment."
"Multi-cloud visibility saves time and makes things easier, as we can also have comparability to see what configuration differences have been made from cloud to cloud."
"Once it is set up, Qualys has proved to be one of our greatest assets."
"The best part I like is the on-demand scans."
"I appreciate TotalCloud's real-time protection and remediation features. The remediation options include automated one-click remedies and custom changes that help manage vulnerabilities efficiently."
"The interface is simple to use."
"In summary, compared to the other products that are available in India, technical support and scalability are good."
"Has great reporting features."
"Rapid7 have a good distribution network with good support and market presence."
"InsightVM is easy to use, has a well-defined dashboard, and can be customized according to your needs."
"most valuable features of Rapid7 InsightVM for me are creating dynamic asset tags, generating reports, and deploying the agent. The agent scans assets every four hours, providing real-time data on any devices. Although there weren't any significant new features compared to our previous tool, having both SIEM and vulnerability management handled by one tool made things easier. We could gather logs from different devices and cloud sources, and perform detailed investigations without switching tools. I haven't worked with the automation capabilities of InsightVM. For remediation prioritization, we check the vulnerability, search for solutions on open platforms, and work with different teams to apply patches after proper testing. Currently, we don’t have any AI or ASM projects assisted by InsightVM"
"I really love the new platform. It is really easy to understand, use, and deploy."
"The performance is good."
"The remediation project is a pretty effective because it allows us, as clients or countries, to choose specific assets and set limitations on them for a certain period which allows us to track and follow up on those limitations. However, when it comes to real-time monitoring and live dashboards, InsightVM doesn't quite fit the bill. It's not a real-time solution and is not instant."
"The feature that I have found most valuable is its dashboards."

Cons

"Their customer support needs improvement."
"Qualys TotalCloud can be improved in the integration piece, especially with ServiceNow, where there's a bidirectional sync integrated, as there is no native capability from Qualys that can give monitoring metrics of how many assets came in and how many failed or were not properly reconciled or combined."
"In terms of improvement, remediation still belongs to the cloud team, which is one of the issues we faced with Qualys TotalCloud."
"I didn't give it a ten because I would like to see simpler configuration, more customizable dashboards, and better automation and integration options."
"In my opinion, the combination of detection and protection features in Qualys TotalCloud cannot protect but can only detect."
"The patching process with Qualys Patch Management, which is part of TotalCloud, does not cover installing certain prerequisites on the servers or workstations. This shortcoming means we must rely on SCCM when any service stack updates or additional prerequisites are needed."
"Qualys' customer service provides quality answers, but the response time is long, even though it is within the SLA."
"I sometimes have difficulty detecting or uninstalling certain versions of applications, which I have to do manually."
"Compared to similar products by other vendors, this is an expensive one."
"There are not many partners for this product in India, which makes the OEM very difficult to reach."
"It would be great to have a mobile application client."
"Technical support does not respond quickly."
"They should integrate the solution with multiple products."
"The product does not have the capability to do dynamic scanning of non-web applications."
"There are not enough templates, and the reporting is weak with this solution."
"We are a registered reseller and a trusted partner. However, for us to get any support from them I can't log a call directly with Rapid7 InsightVM. I have to work with the distributor to log the call for me."
"Within InsightVM, there is no feature to assign a ticket. If we can have more API calls, we can do that from InsightVM."
"Rapid7 InsightVM, has impressive capabilities, especially when it comes to managing video equipment. However, we've noticed that Rapid7 also offers a cloud solution called CloudSec, and we don't have that. We think it would be better if InsightVM had all the features for both on-premise and cloud management."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Qualys TotalCloud is cost-efficient and was selected for its value compared to other products."

"Qualys TotalCloud offers competitive pricing given its comprehensive suite of features, including integration, assessment, remediation, and detection capabilities, all within a single platform."
"TotalCloud's price is about right where I would expect it to be."
"As a middle management member, I do not have direct pricing knowledge, but based on the knowledge from our meetings, its pricing is competitive."
"The pricing for TotalCloud is attractive and competitive in the market. Given the features, especially the dashboard, I have no concerns regarding pricing."

"Pricing is reasonable because we pay according to asset usage. We can define our assets and sites according to our preference."
"Its price is too high. My only concern or issue with Rapid7 is its pricing."
