The product provides good content filtering options, but the false positive submissions must be improved
The tool is very stable. I rate the stability a seven out of ten. It's an on-premise application that runs on a virtual machine. It has dependencies on the hypervisor host that we're running it on. If it's not configured, the application can be influenced by it. Sometimes, there is a service stop error while the service is still running. Sometimes, the service just stops. Some policies do not act the way that we intend them to respond.

Endpoint protection has strengthened network control and has simplified global threat response
In my opinion, the best features Trellix Collaboration Security offers include the firewall, the on-access scan, and the ability to obtain daily signatures for the latest malware. These daily signatures, referred to as content, ensure that we are protected against the most recent malware threats recognized by other companies. Another feature I particularly enjoy is the capability to maintain different locations that can communicate with the fabric, or DXL fabric as I refer to it, allowing me to create something akin to an EDR for immediate responses to resolve issues. The DXL fabric has helped my organization by enabling communication between different locations, such as one in Europe, another in South America, and one here. This fabric communicates with a broker that interacts with the TIE servers, which maintain the reputation of files, certificates, and known signatures from various regions including Europe, South America, and Canada. When something suspicious occurs, such as a certificate appearing malicious on an application, I can easily click and indicate that I trust this file, and through the fabric, I can apply an exclusion for that application across all locations simultaneously. Other features I find valuable include the SSO integration with Trellix EPO, specifically SAML SSO, allowing people not to have to manage usernames and passwords if they already utilize an SSO service for SAML; I consider this functionality to be quite beneficial.

Pros

"Symantec Messaging Gateway is stable and scalable. Installation is easy, and the deployment and maintenance can be done by one administrative person."
"My advice to others who plan to use Symantec Messaging Gateway is that it's a very good product, it's very stable, and it's user-friendly, but the only problem is that it doesn't have good partner support here in Bolivia, where I'm located."
"The most valuable feature of the solution is the content filtering policies because the solution offers huge options for configuration, such as hardware manipulation, et cetera, and the dictionaries make the work easier."
"I've been using Messaging Gateway for ten years."
"Since Symantec Messaging Gateway is a Linux-based solution it is stable."
"The feature that I like the best is the fingerprinting concept."
"I like that it's simple and easy to configure, deploy, and manage. The reporting function has all the features we're looking for, and we are fine with that."
"It has very good capabilities for managing malware."
"The product protects my email."
"The solution offers almost every feature that customers need in one solution, for example, spam filtering, antivirus, et cetera, with almost zero false positives."
"The product helps reduce the number of malicious emails reaching the user's inbox."
"I rely on Trellix Collaboration Security because the sensors are highly reliable and high-performance sensors that can handle traffic efficiently."
"FireEye Email Security is easy to use."
"One of the most valuable features is the protection against vulnerabilities, particularly through virtual patching."
"I like FireEye's filtering, spam digests, and its advanced threat review of email flow. It also has a broad range of riskware rules you can deploy."
"The major features of Trellix Collaboration Security are URL analysis and file inspection, which are considered the crown of the product."

Cons

"They have updated the version of the Messaging Gateway and the new features they are adding the need to be re-evaluated. They have done some changes on the policy."
"Since it was purchased by Broadcomm, we've found there's been a general slide in terms of the local services we have access to and we are considering replacing them."
"The solution takes up a lot of memory."
"What needs to be improved in Symantec Messaging Gateway is its local partner support, as it's not as technical."
"If the customer has to think about budget and solutions to reduce IT cost, they should get away from Symantec and try using Microsoft."
"The documentation could have more detailed examples of how to use the product in various situations. As more companies shift to the cloud, they could better integrate the on-prem and cloud versions through an on-prem client."
"Recently, I've had some problems regarding their support. The tech was acquired by Broadcom, and since then, the support part is very bad."
"Messaging Gateway's advanced malware detection could be improved."
"We're not really that satisfied with technical support. They are too slow to respond."
"Sometimes especially zero-day spam emails can be passed to the user's inbox."
"I observe that the return on investment is hindered by the lack of adequate training opportunities, with Trellix's own training being quite costly, ranging from 2,000 to 4,000 dollars, which many small or medium-sized businesses cannot afford."
"The reporting aspect of the solution needs improvement."
"I deduct two points because while we are using it for insiders, we still rely on another solution for gateway level security, which makes us use two different solutions for the same purpose."
"The cloud product is not open to the customers. If the system itself could be more open to the customer, I'd be able to configure it more specifically."
"I would rate them as a 1.5. The new hub created in India is not good."
"FireEye needs single sign-on. They say it's on their roadmap. They should also implement support for Microsoft Authenticator app for 2FA."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Symantec Messaging Gateway’s pricing is very cheap."
"A subscription for technical support costs extra."
"It's a bit expensive compared to its competitor Barracuda Email Security Gateway but cheaper than Sophos Email."
"For 150 users, we pay INR 1,60,000."
"They're a little costly compared to Microsoft."
"The cost of Symantec Messaging Gateway is too expensive in general. However, the appliance also includes the price of the license in the same bundle."
"The licensing is on a yearly basis."
"The cost is very high."
"The solution requires a license to be purchased for every user."
"I rate the product price as nine out of ten, where ten is the most expensive, and one is the cheapest. There is no need to pay any extra charges apart from the licensing costs."
