Risk-based triage has transformed container security and now prioritizes high-impact threats
The best features Qualys TotalCloud offers currently include managing cloud infrastructure and container security while facing major challenges such as alert fatigue. Traditional vulnerability scanners flag hundreds of CVEs on short-lived Kubernetes containers, some of which have no internet exposure or are gone before we can even triage them. I leverage Qualys TotalCloud to move beyond static CVSS. I use it to implement runtime exposure, correlation risk reprioritization, and shift-left integration. This notifies developers to fix a base image upstream rather than patching live ephemeral instances. In my work with cloud and container security, the biggest operational hurdle was alert fatigue. I use Qualys to shift left from static CVSS severity to context-aware risk prioritization. I correlated raw vulnerability data with real-time risk factors such as public network exposure, active runtime execution, or overly permissive IAM roles. This allows us to immediately drop the priority of isolated containers and escalate lower-severity CVEs that sit on an exposed, high-risk path. We can map these findings directly back to our CI/CD pipelines so developers can patch the root base images upstream. We have drastically cut down the signal-to-noise ratio, saved a lot of manual hours doing triage work, and ensured engineering effort goes directly towards high-impact risk reduction.

Continuous monitoring has improved OT threat detection and now provides faster, accurate alerts
The best features of Tenable Vulnerability Management include vulnerability scanning, asset discovery, continuous monitoring and alerting, and the ability to report through the dashboard. The dashboard is fully customized towards our environment, and we can use that for our advantage. Out of those features, I find myself relying on the vulnerability scanning the most because it identifies known vulnerabilities and gives us the ability to understand if there is any missing configuration or security configuration. It reduces the exposure to cyber attacks and gives us a detailed view of how the OT environment is functioning. Tenable Vulnerability Management features are great, and the reporting and dashboards are easy and customizable for our environment. The reporting tool gives us immediate information or alerts based on the set parameters that we have within the infrastructure. It gives us a threat level as high, medium, or low, and this can help us to identify or determine if there is any known threat within the environment. The governance and security of Tenable Vulnerability Management is within our control, meaning the user has the power or the authority to work with the AI and to allow the AI to work within your environment in terms of what you want. For instance, the OT environment is something that is very sensitive, and you will not want the AI management tool to take over or to do certain actions within the OT environment. Therefore, as a user, you have control over the AI. Tenable Vulnerability Management provides accuracy and reliable output because it is active, it is real, and it gives updated information. The threats are real based on the alerts that we get, and after reviewing, we are sure that what we see is within our environment and it is accurate.

Risk-based workflows have transformed how our teams prioritize and track critical vulnerabilities
One important area for improvement could be reporting flexibility and dashboard customization, as this would need to align with specific organizational requirements. I believe it could be better. Additionally, UI simplification and more customization around workflows and reporting would further enhance the analyst experience. Improvements in executive reporting, more customizable dashboards, and deeper workflow flexibility would enhance operational usability further. Vulcan Cyber handles scalability well in our organization. It maintains stability for visibility and remediation tracking, avoiding the need for additional storage, as it is cloud-based. It scales well in our environment, even as vulnerability data and assets grow significantly.
