Centralized scheduling has improved automation and reduces manual monitoring for complex workflows
The best features JAMS Scheduler offers are centralized job scheduling, dependency management, and monitoring. I also appreciate the alerts and retry options because they help us handle failures without constantly checking jobs manually. Centralized scheduling makes it easier to manage all our jobs from one place instead of maintaining multiple schedulers or scripts. Dependency management is especially useful for chaining workflows because JAMS Scheduler can automatically trigger the next job only when the required previous step completes successfully. Another useful feature is the monitoring and alerting. If a scheduled job fails or runs longer than expected, we can quickly identify it and take action, which is particularly helpful for production support and reducing manual monitoring. JAMS Scheduler has helped quite a bit with identifying common job failures, missed schedules, dependency issues, and execution errors. The alerts and job history make it easier to identify the failure point and take corrective action without manually checking every workflow. JAMS Scheduler's code-driven automation has been useful for handling more complex scheduling logic and workflows that go beyond simple time-based triggers. It is important for us because we can combine scripts, dependencies, conditions, and parameters to support different production scenarios without creating too much manual intervention.

Its versatility, ease of use, scalability, and cost-effectiveness make it a 10/10 and the best of the breed
The company is not really big. One of the areas that they are working on is improving the process of migrating jobs from the lower environment to the upper environment. They had used a tool called Transporter, which was a little difficult to use, but they've now released a new tool in August, which I've not yet used, to do that. It's probably called Repository or something like that, but it's a tool for migrating jobs from the lower environment to the upper environment. That's where they needed to improve, and it looks like they may have, but I haven't tried the tool yet. They can do better reporting in terms of production statistics reporting.

Have managed deployments with minimal hiccups and simplified job scheduling through intuitive interface
Scheduling and running jobs is valuable because it simplifies automation. You just need to connect the bot and you can run it easily. For example, with Selenium automation, I tried Automation Anywhere, but I did not see many packages available in Automation Anywhere. Compared to UiPath, there are many packages available to make automation easier, which is why I find UiPath to be the best. Another valuable feature is the ability to give access to people in UiPath Orchestrator at the organization level. They can log in and see the information themselves, which provides transparency to the people and helps with visibility.

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"In summary, this product is top class."
"Fortra's JAMS helped us centralize job management across our platforms and applications. This is critical because we schedule tasks across multiple applications and operating systems, using triggers and start dates to coordinate their execution."
"JAMS has been a beneficial monitoring tool for our project in terms of being able to deliver data that is essential for users."
"We have seen a practical return on investment, mainly through reduced manual monitoring and fewer missed job executions."
"Getting JAMS in place was a game changer for us back then."
"What my team needs are tools to reliably execute all the jobs, minimize the risks, and support high-availability, and JAMS does the job."
"We can see all the batch execution status within the tool itself, which saves money, time, and cost, allowing us to handle everything in one single tool."
"I appreciate JAMS for its readily available templates that allow me to create and deliver stand-up presentations within minutes quickly."
"We literally run our whole enterprise on this, so if Tidal goes down, the world stops."
"Tidal integrates with other third-party systems, which makes it easy to connect and exchange data."
"It is intended to enable large-scale automation environments, making it appropriate for companies with complicated processes and big data volumes."
"The thing that I like the most is the reliability of the engine. The actual scheduling part of the product is pretty much flawless, but the stability of the product is what I find to be reassuring."
"Thinking of all the people involved in checking jobs on a daily basis, manually running jobs or auditing them through standalone tools, and trying to connect them. We have saved hundreds of hours weekly, which is substantial."
"Having a single pane of glass, regardless of which technology we're talking about has been great."
"The versatility of being able to run on many different types of servers is valuable. There is also a versatility of different services that you could run jobs on. It's highly versatile. You can run a lot of different types of scripts on a lot of different types of servers. It interfaces with all of them."
"For our MRP job stream, if Tidal can just once prevent an MRP issue from happening or let us recover from an MRP issue quickly, it has paid for itself."
"The centralized login feature greatly helps because we can also use the Active Directory feature. We do not need to create a new user. We can connect with a user from a company, and we can add all the groups they have to set the features for a specific group. We do not need to do that for each user, and we can do that for a specific role we have in the company. I think this helps a lot."
"Compared to UiPath, there are many packages available to make automation easier, which is why I find UiPath to be the best."
"UiPath Orchestrator improves operational efficiency through its centralized dashboard and asset management."
"The initial setup was straightforward."
"The focus on repeat application automation is valuable."
"From what I have seen, it is a reliable tool."
"The most valuable feature of the solution stems from the fact that it was a user-friendly product with an intuitive design."
"The features of UiPath Orchestrator that I find to be the most useful for automation processes are scheduling, queue management, and asset management."

Cons

"The UI could be better. There were some things that were not quite intuitive, such as the search tool. When we tried to search for jobs, we had to clear the entire search and then go in and enter the new search query. That's something that wasn't intuitive for a new user."
"The product does not allow the users to cut and paste the job names from the screen."
"They recently switched to subscription-based pricing, which increased."
"There are some improvements needed for JAMS Scheduler; I would like to see more detailed error diagnostics and clearer troubleshooting guidance when scheduled jobs fail."
"The UI is completely unintuitive. We had to go and open up a support ticket with JAMS just to get something back."
"It is important to receive notifications if a charged job fails and SQL is halted. JAMS does not provide halted notifications by default, which is a critical feature that needs to be added."
"As an admin, I would like to have a web-based GUI instead of a client application that we have to install on our PCs."
"I want JAMS to implement a global search function."
"From an administrative point of view, I wouldn't give really high marks to the solution. I actually entertained getting the JAWS application at one point. One of the shortcomings with the scheduler is the reporting capabilities. At least at the time, JAWS was the best that they had for a third-party integration. I think they've got things in the pipeline to help alleviate that gap."
"To better fit their unique needs, the solution should give more customization options."
"Their software installation and update process could use some improvements. I'm pretty sure they're working on that, but that's definitely an area where it could be streamlined a lot. There's still a lot of manual work that you have to do with the schedule when you deploy masters or do the agents."
"We've had some quirky stuff happen on an occasional basis where a job does not take off. For example, a job we expected to be finished by 3:00 a.m. is sitting there and not executing when we come in in the morning. We have to go all the way back to the dependencies and then we can see that one of the dependencies has become unscheduled, for some reason. No changes were made to the schedule but this prerequisite job has, all of a sudden, become unscheduled. I have brought this up with Tidal's support but they have never had an answer for it."
"The GUI, the graphical user interface, gets a little bit busy. You have these flyouts that sometimes are a little tedious to get through."
"I don't know if Tidal wants to get into the business of monitoring long-running jobs, but that could be a feature for the future: a job launching and monitoring tool. Using Tidal for monitoring doesn't seem like a good fit, but if they could offer something that did that as an add-on or include it, it might be helpful."
"The drill-down into details using the Graphical Views feature is a bit difficult and not that helpful. If you want to go into the details, you have to go to the Job Activity. Graphical Views is not that easy for getting that kind of information."
"My complaint about their pricing model is that every year or every time technology changes or somebody has a new requirement, it usually means that I can schedule that with Tidal, but I would need another adapter. So, every time there is a change, I need a different adapter that I don't have. That's why it is harder to plan for Tidal growth because you have to buy a new adapter every time."
"I am interested in seeing more features like document understanding and AI integration."
"Limiting certain deployment scenarios and enforcing best practices could be beneficial."
"It takes us time to understand the process before we can publish it. Its pricing needs to be lower, and there needs to be a centralized dashboard."
"It's a bit difficult to connect to the licenses."
"One of the significant challenges we've encountered with UiPath Orchestrator is the frequent and rapid changes in the tool's interface and functionality."
"The tool makes the laptops slow."
"The installation of the product on an on-premises version can take a long time and may involve some troubleshooting procedures to be followed."
"The credential vault is generic and does not have process categorization. The tool needs to arrange a Customer Success Manager for support. It should also improve the credential manager and integrate a customized form of retrieving the details. There should be more dashboards as well."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"JAMS is relatively inexpensive, with additional costs only incurred for tags, other services, and optional support renewals."
"Definitely check how many single processes you want to run and count them as jobs. That is how you would work out your pricing on JAMS. For example, if you're running a number of commands and you can put them all into one script and run that script, you can count that as one job."
"The pricing of JAMS has not been an issue for us, as it has allowed us to save time."
"JAMS is priced competitively compared to similar solutions and offers flexible licensing options to cater to user needs."
"The licensing model for JAMS is straightforward and based on the number of agents, not the number of jobs you run. It's cheap and fairly simple."
"The product is reasonably priced, and we don't have any add-ons."
"JAMS is close to the lower end of the pricing models for enterprise scheduling solutions. They are much cheaper than Control-M, as well as some other products that I've used. I also don't know of another solution where you can actually get true, unlimited licensing, where you can have as many instances and as many agents as you want."
"This is a good product at a fair price."
"The solution enables admins and users to see the information relevant to them, but this is bundled as an add-on that we would have to pay for."
"BMC is really expensive. The other solutions are about the same price. I think Tidal is even cheaper than the others, such as CA, Stonebranch, and JAMS."
"Our licensing model for Tidal is on an annual basis. It is very good and works well for us. Tidal's licensing is very transparent and simple. It lets you know, for the amount you use, that's the price that you pay. So, we buy X number of licenses, and we know that this is where we are. I'm very happy with that. I saw the licensing modules on other platforms, and I didn't like them. Other companies and solutions would calculate the connections, adapters, and instances. I think that's the reason that BMC was pretty expensive: They just didn't understand what our needs are."
"...it is a pretty affordable scheduler tool that lets us do a lot. You get a lot of bang for the buck... The licensing model is hugely flexible."
"We think the pricing is very fair. We have been happy with the pricing compared to some of the other solutions in the space."
"Their pricing seems very fair. It is more than the other solutions, but the functionality and the support are very much there. You pay for the job scheduler, and then they have certain things that are built into it, such as the FTP processes. If you then want to do JD Edwards jobs, you need an adapter. If you want to do SQL jobs, there is another adapter. Similarly, if you want to do Oracle jobs, there is an adapter. It is like there is the base and then there are the adapters for the jobs that you want to do, but it seems that's also how they pay for each of those adapters and keep them up to date."
"The solution has no hidden costs. It helps me to plan forward into the future. I know that I can add another 100 or a thousand jobs, and that's how much it will cost me today."
"We are satisfied with the pricing of Tidal. It's in the moderate range and it feels very achievable for us."
"The product is expensive."
"The solution’s pricing is reasonable."
"Larger organizations may benefit from more favorable pricing, as the costs can be distributed across more licenses."
"UiPath Orchestrator is an expensive tool to implement."
"The tool's licensing cost is high. I rate the tool an eight or nine on a scale from one to ten, where ten means expensive."
"The product is quite expensive."
"The solution is very expensive. Compared to Microsoft, another tool that is much cheaper than the tool, it does not have the same features that UiPath Orchestrator has. The most valuable feature in my platform is the queue items in UiPath Orchestrator to evaluate the products using this feature."
"The product is expensive, and the associated licenses add to the expenses, initially making deploying new processes costly."
