Centralized DDI management has transformed our hospitals and now cuts manual effort to a minimum
There is not much to dislike about it. It is not a Microsoft product. It is based on Linux. I am a Microsoft guy learning to run these Linux environments. So there is a little bit of a learning curve there if you are not already a native or natural Linux user. We do have to patch our environments, probably quarterly, with hot fixes or updates that we have to apply. Updates and maintenance and applying them could be improved. Unfortunately, we can only do them one at a time. We have to follow them sequentially. We cannot do them all in mass. That does become a problem for us, especially if we have a zero-day threat that is sitting out there that is live. If I cannot update my environment within moments, then I am challenged. In order to update this environment with 150 plus devices, I have to go through one at a time. That can take us several days to be able to patch. Our API is the only automation capability. Our networking team who provisions our new networks as we build a new environment or a new site or we acquire a new organization handles a lot of that through automation via API. They provision and build up the permissions and rights and access model for each new network and sub-network. We are considering and trying to determine if we need to get even more automated and whether or not we need to leverage more API capability. We are building a team of automation engineers, and they are looking around and digging to find something to work on. We could do some more automation, but what would we do? We still have not figured out what else we would do. For my team that runs the actual BlueCat Integrity environment, we do not use API automation. Our networking team who provisions and builds the new networks handles that via API. We have thought about going through more in-depth automation, but we cannot find a good use case for it in terms of what level of engagement we want to take with it and how dedicated we want to be to become a development shop. That is still on the wings and we are trying to figure out if this is something that we can handle, or do we continually have to rely upon an external developer. BlueCat Integrity does not develop for us. They have a certain level of liability that they will not accept when it comes to automation and scripting through their API. They say they will guide us, but they will not do it for us.

Regarding policy-based management in Cisco Prime Network Registrar, I did not use that. As for leveraging APIs with Cisco Prime Network Registrar, I have not used any APIs. The importance of redundant configuration and failover capabilities in my network operations is highlighted by our use of a networking concept called GLBP for redundancy, and we are using HSRP as well. If you are talking about device redundancy or failover, we are doing the stack concept. I purchased Cisco Prime Network Registrar through a partner purchase. I would recommend Cisco Prime Network Registrar to other users, but it is expensive. I rate this product a nine out of ten.

Pros

"BlueCat Integrity has positively impacted our organization by allowing us to do our job in a timely manner, making customers happy, reflecting the overall performance of our company, and receiving great feedback, which results in more business and trustworthiness with customers, whether they are existing or new."
"BlueCat Integrity provides us with flexibility and visibility that we did not have before."
"BlueCat Integrity has helped our organization reduce downtime, as if we had gone for the manual or older Microsoft services, we would have definitely faced a lot of downtime; now it's almost zero downtime."
"As a defense contractor, we must meet many compliance standards regarding logging, configuration, and administrative access. BlueCat is one of the few products that combines all the compliance components in a secure, reliable solution."
"The support from BlueCat was exceptional, as all issues were addressed without any major impacts, with support being very quick and faster compared to the previous vendor we had."
"The most valuable aspect is its user-friendly interface. It is straightforward to use."
"BlueCat Integrity is a very mature and reliable product, and we really love it."
"This inherent stability, derived from its Linux-based architecture, provides a well-established and reliable platform."
"The best features of Cisco Prime Network Registrar are that I can monitor all the controllers and access points."

Cons

"The IPAM dashboard could be enhanced to display more information and provide data analysis features."
"I would say the simplicity of the UI sometimes is also its downfall."
"BlueCat Integrity can improve by increasing the amount of updates it releases."
"When I started using BlueCat Integrity, I found it somewhat challenging to navigate to add DNS entries, but over time I learned how to use it better, and it became very easy to scroll and manage as I became more familiar with the environment."
"Usability needs to be better."
"Updates and maintenance and applying them could be improved."
"The solution does not export reports in a comprehensive format that allows us to see usage, administrators, VLAN, and backups."
"Some areas need improvement, especially the issue with stale entries in the BlueCat tenancy. I have heard that it is already fixed in BlueCat Integrity 10. I have not used that yet."
"Aruba takes the license only once, but Cisco asks multiple times to renew the licenses, and it is very costly."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Adaptive DNS's price depends on your network ranges, the services you want, and the level of support you require."
"BlueCat Integrity is affordable."
"BlueCat Integrity's pricing is reasonable within the market."
"We paid around $5,000 per year for SolarWinds, and now we pay around $20,000 per year for BlueCat, but we have less downtime and fewer issues with DNS and DHCP."
"Overall, I would say that it is priced fairly, though perhaps a bit on the high side."
"BlueCat Integrity meets our expectations and aligns with our budget forecast."
"BlueCat Integrity is a little expensive, but it's worth the price because it offers the flexibility and features we need in our space. We have more than 25,000 employees, and it makes sense for a network of our size. It's required for us to be compliant in the defense industry. Given the restrictions we face, we must be able to easily show that we've complied with all the regulations."
"Overall, it's a decent price for the product. There are other vendors that have support models and costs that are, sometimes, double what Bluecat charges."
