Database work has become more efficient while performance analysis still needs improvements
One area I would like to see improved in dbForge Studio for SQL Server is the performance when using schema and data comparison for large databases, as the comparison can take some time and require more visual review. I would prefer more built-in guidance around generated synchronization scripts to quickly understand what will change before including the script.

With Oracle products, I have extensive experience, particularly with the database. I am familiar with DB2, which is IBM, and also I'm familiar with Postgres and other database products. I am using Exadata, which is a hardware and software platform. That's the back-end hardware platform. I'm basically using PL/SQL, which is the main product that I'm using all the time. I am using Oracle SQL Developer very extensively. With version control, you're basically working on multiple products, and the integration is good for sharing code, and it provides good facilities for team collaboration. I am not using the automated SQL tuning features, but I have extensively used the explain plan tool which is available in Oracle SQL Developer for performance enhancement. Oracle SQL Developer is a wonderful tool for ad hoc reports. You can quickly develop underlying code, run it, and create a report that you can format as well, outputting in Excel or any other format, in text or CSV format, which you can push to other tools for further processing or transmit it. We are end users, not partners or resellers with the product. I rate Oracle SQL Developer a 9 out of 10.

Pros

"dbForge Studio for SQL Server has positively impacted my organization by making routine database development and troubleshooting more efficient, leading to improved DBA productivity, faster troubleshooting, and reduced manual efforts, rather than directly reducing staffing or infrastructure costs."
"If you do SQL for a living you need a robust productivity tool."
"The features that I find are the most valuable are easy querying, screen objects, relational diagram creation, and simplicity."
"It's quite easy to install and use from a local machine or laptop, as well as on a server."
"I like the ease of use and quick data usage."
"The solution is very scalable; if you set up a very large database, billions of records or so, if you have enough memory and enough disk space, it's quite easy to do."
"I like it because it's very similar in output to SQL *Plus, and it has many convenience features that make it easier to read the data and use the basic reporting features it provides."
"Technical support is great; they are extremely responsive and helpful with issues and questions."
"In my work in BI development I find that Oracle SQL Developer is the main tool in my tool box."
"Oracle is tremendous, and I have always said to everybody, without knowing other databases, that Oracle is the best database that can exist in this world."
"Everybody should try it because you do not have to code things to create output from JSON or DDL."
"As a database trainer, I would like to say that although SQL developer is an open-source software, yet it provides a lot of features that you can find only in paid versions of its counterparts."
"Customer service has been most excellent."
"It's an independent platform, you can use it anywhere, it's good, scalable and a lot of times it works as-is, with very few calls to support."

Cons

"I once had a problem stopping a long running query, not sure whose fault was, mine, the server or something else."
"The only issue that I have is that it depends on hardware resources, it takes a lot, that is the only set back with the solution."
"One area I would like to see improved in dbForge Studio for SQL Server is the performance when using schema and data comparison for large databases, as the comparison can take some time and require more visual review."
"The lock files and login are two features we've had issues with. As far as I can see, there's no way to switch off the login in SQL Servers. If there could be a way to switch off the login, for transactions, or in operations, or tables, that'd be great."
"Oracle SQL Developer could improve the speed, it is a bit slow."
"Could be made to load faster."
"Even though it installs easy, there is a lot of Java behind the tool. It seems like some of the Java is more memory-intensive."
"The stability depends on what version you're using. There are more successful versions and are less successful versions. For example, 17.3 is less successful. There were many bugs. Now, we are trying to pull all the developers to upgrade to 17.4."
"Versioning is there, check. But it sucks a lot, double check."
"But after many years, when I tried to use it again, against the more advanced Oracle Database, it did not work."
"Scalability has room for improvement. Often if you have to do a heavy load of queries or are getting large result sets you have to be careful not to overload the Java virtual machine that's running."
"The downsides of Oracle SQL Developer include hard typing."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Because it's 2012 version, it's a one-off enterprise license that we have never had to upgrade."
"It's a free tool."
"It's a no-cost license and it offers outstanding functionality on that basis."
"It has the advantage that it's free. The next best competitor would cost several thousand dollars."
"It is basically free."
