Good plugins and helpful templates with a useful auto-code suggestion feature
Eclipse's auto-code suggestion feature makes programming very easy and fast. Thanks to Eclipse, we can deliver fast and well-compiled code as it compiles the code on every hit which stops developers from writing bad code instantly. On top of this, we can integrate other software like Tomcat, and MySQL in Eclipse very easily which makes development even faster. Now, we can deploy our Java app directly into Tomcat from Eclipse itself which saves a lot of time in development. The same thing is true in MySQL. we can see data in Eclipse itself using SQL queries. There's no need to install a query browser application.

With Oracle products, I have extensive experience, particularly with the database. I am familiar with DB2, which is IBM, and also I'm familiar with Postgres and other database products. I am using Exadata, which is a hardware and software platform. That's the back-end hardware platform. I'm basically using PL/SQL, which is the main product that I'm using all the time. I am using Oracle SQL Developer very extensively. With version control, you're basically working on multiple products, and the integration is good for sharing code, and it provides good facilities for team collaboration. I am not using the automated SQL tuning features, but I have extensively used the explain plan tool which is available in Oracle SQL Developer for performance enhancement. Oracle SQL Developer is a wonderful tool for ad hoc reports. You can quickly develop underlying code, run it, and create a report that you can format as well, outputting in Excel or any other format, in text or CSV format, which you can push to other tools for further processing or transmit it. We are end users, not partners or resellers with the product. I rate Oracle SQL Developer a 9 out of 10.

Pros

"Eclipse is a neat IDE; it works as a one-stop shop for all of our application development requirements, including development, debugging, unit testing, and an extensive list of plugins to extend functionality."
"Eclipse's auto-code suggestion feature makes programming very easy and fast."
"It is very extensible and uses resources optimally."
"It works like a one-stop shop for all of our application development requirements."
"Oracle SQL Developer is scalable; it can perform the same when more people use it, and most of the people in my organization are using it, with approximately 100 people in the organization."
"I have a lot of flexibility with it."
"Oracle SQL Developer is an IDE that also provides a lot of tools for creating ad hoc reports and organizing your objects; those are the main use cases I would say."
"It allows us to implement a form of test driven development (TDD) for database-resident code."
"SQL Developer has reached a maturity level where it offers pretty much the same essential functionality (and much more) that you can find in other solutions, with the benefit of being free."
"Oracle is tremendous, and I have always said to everybody, without knowing other databases, that Oracle is the best database that can exist in this world."
"Very, very impressed with the development and product management team for this particular tool."
"The most valuable features of Oracle SQL Developer that I use. However, I do not use all of them"

Cons

"I would give the technical support a rating of zero."
"I would like to see it extend native support for functional languages like Scala."
"Eclipse can sometimes be a plugin nightmare. Various plugins require different versions of the same plugin running for different reasons."
"I would expect the team to fix any existing bugs related to performance and make it more stable for future releases."
"The development of the product needs improvement."
"The interface could be friendlier for the DBA by having the dashboard show real-time statistics from the database engine."
"If they had something on the Web then you wouldn't need to install it, just query, like Enterprise Manager."
"The GUI ‘navigator’ screen uses different icons for partitioned, indexed organised tables, temporary and of course conventional tables, but this is not the case with indexes in the viewer - they all look the same so you can’t tell if it is a bitmap index, a unique index, a partitioned index or what."
"It's more stable sometimes and less stable other times. I have used it in Windows, Mac, and Linux. It's variable, it's not the same stability. I think that can be improved on."
"I would like it to support background processes better."
"There is room for improvement in the Real Time SQL Monitoring."
"It would be nice to have the ability to access DBs than Oracle."
"The downsides of Oracle SQL Developer include hard typing."
