Consolidates tools and streamlines cross-platform database work
There is not a lot that I have to complain about with DbVisualizer. Over the years, as I have mentioned, they have continued to enhance the interface and the databases that are supported, but I do not think there is a lot of room for improvement. Most improvements will come from changes in the marketplace, such as new database features that need to be interacted with or perhaps more support for new data types and databases that are going to be supporting AI. Some of that, as we have seen thus far, is not necessarily the game changer that we would have thought. Integrating a co-pilot for SQL queries would be an interesting feature in the future.

Hybrid data platform has strengthened performance, security, and incident response for production
SQL Server is very mature, but I see areas for improvement, especially in performance tuning, troubleshooting, and automation. Although tools such as Query Store and dynamic management views are powerful, some troubleshooting tasks still require senior SQL Server database administrator expertise. It would be valuable to have more intelligent, built-in recommendations for root cause analysis, indexing, blocking, and query optimization. I would also like to see simplified and consistent management across on-premises SQL Server and Azure SQL services, as managing hybrid environments sometimes requires different tools and approaches. Finally, improved patching, updates, monitoring, and cost and license transparency could make SQL Server easier to manage at the enterprise scale. One area I would improve in SQL Server is its documentation and troubleshooting guidance. SQL Server documentation is comprehensive, but for complex production issues, I would like to see more real-world troubleshooting examples, especially for scenarios such as Always On synchronization issues, blocking and deadlocks, performance degradation, and upgrade features.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Timed queries that add their result to the result grid for every execution are helpful."
"DbVisualizer is invaluable to me because it allows me to work from enterprise database systems like Oracle to more emerging database providers like CockroachDB, and can scale to anything up or down from SQLite or standard PostgreSQL."
"Actions like exporting grids to Excel or other tools is a very easy task."
"For over 10 years I have been a frequent DbVisualizer user, it is very comfortable and has some features not found in any other SQL tool."
"Timed SQL execution and real-time graphs are the killer features."
"The columnstore index feature is useful for us, and we also use the integration services. It is also very stable."
"Overall, we've been satisfied with the capabilities of the product."
"We have found the feature that allows us to publish web applications to be valuable."
"SQL Server stands out due to its robust parallel processing capabilities."
"I love SQL Server's Common Table Expression, and in addition to that, I like its lead and lag functions, which helped us reduce a lot of code when comparing rows in SQL Server."
"I like the defined database and the ease with which it can be used and that enquiries can be made."
"The stability is fine, especially if you're hosting it on AWS or Azure. You can get up to 99.99% stability on AWS."
"We use SQL Server for storing all our company information, such as ERP, customer applications, and our wealth management systems."

Cons

"Sometimes, I feel that the startup time takes a bit more time than needed."
"One thing I would like to see changed is having the JDBC drivers in a fixed location outside of the application package."
"As a software developer, it can be hard to do something in Oracle that is SQL Server specific, and vice-versa, sometimes."
"When we run into problems, it's usually during installation, and finding answers to the problem has been a nightmare because the documentation is terrible."
"SQL Server could improve by providing something similar to an interface or dashboard where a developer can do debugging, this would make a developer's work easier. Additionally, the optimization could be better. If there was an interface showing information needed for the optimization it would help because there can be some data loss making it difficult to optimize the SQL Server."
"There are scalability limitations and this is why we are evaluating cloud alternatives."
"The product needs improvement in its UX design."
"It would be nice if there was a feature to search for a specific value across multiple tables. This would save a lot of time for its users."
"Indexing, as well as integration, are areas of this product that need improvement."
"For a big amount of data, when we are speaking about IoT Segments, and Big Data projects, there are performance issues."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"A license with a few years of support is a good and valuable option."
"The pricing for DbVisualizer is fair."
"There is a license required for this solution."
"Although it comes with a cost, using the most recent version is highly advisable, since it would ensure a certain measure of bug fixes and stability. The sole issue would involve the cost, as this is expensive."
"We have an enterprise license, which we consider to be fine."
"The product’s price depends on the specific server requirements."
"The price of the solution could be cheaper."
"It requires the purchase of a license."
"Some of the licensing are very expensive, such as the Enterprise license."
"There is a license required for this solution and we pay monthly. The price is reasonable compared to other solutions."
