Near-zero downtime has protected critical workloads and now simplifies hybrid cloud recovery
The best features of HPE Zerto Software are mainly very sophisticated and relevant to the current market. The data protection CDP part has real-time replication, unlike other solutions that have snapshot backups. We can set it up hourly, making it ideal for use with workloads. Another attraction is the near-zero RTO, with automated failover within minutes and one-click failover and failback. Currently, we are using a hybrid cloud solution, and HPE Zerto Software supports multi-cloud environments, making it easy to migrate between on-premises and cloud. Regarding the impact of HPE Zerto Software on our RTOs, we have near-zero RTO, meaning the system must be back online within thirty minutes if we measure the time. It is very quick to recover services. With HPE Zerto Software's near-synchronous replication, we have some CDP protection, so we typically write interceptions along with some asynchronous replication. There is almost real-time replication available.

Has enabled seamless disaster recovery with virtual rollovers and rapid failovers between systems
Improving Precisely Assure MIMIX is going to be a really hard one; over the years, the tech support started off kind of rough but gradually got better and better as I used it often, being on a first-name basis with many of the customer service reps because of having to call with issues that they were always able to resolve fairly quickly. I would have liked to see more reporting, maybe automation of reports, but as far as integration with other systems, I always used Precisely Assure MIMIX on an AS/400, iSeries, IBM iSeries machine, and I cannot speak to using it on any other device.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"We have absolutely seen return on our investment with Zerto."
"The most valuable feature of Zerto is the quick recovery time."
"For most use cases, the failover time is a handful of minutes, if that. A single user can run the system."
"The long-term journal is one feature that is useful in that it allows us to use the product as both CDP and backup."
"My impressions of HPE Zerto Software's Near-Sync Replication are that it minimizes the loss of data."
"The most valuable features in Zerto are ease of use number one and the support that has come from the Zerto team."
"Go for it. It's the best-of-breed for high-availability replication solutions."
"Zerto dramatically decreases the amount of time it takes to do a failover; I can essentially do it all by myself and I'm one person, and it allows me to restore our environment fully in a matter of seconds, literally."
"Database replication is most valuable; it is multi-platform, so it can replicate from a variety of different database types to a variety of different database types, and it is a relatively stable database replication product."
"The product's initial setup phase was straightforward and simple."
"I see that the seamless synchronization feature is helpful for your organization or your customers' organization."
"Precisely Assure MIMIX has positively affected our organization by reducing downtime because it takes 30 minutes from swapping from one box to another; production is back up and running within 30 minutes, and a lot of times, I could get it down to 20 minutes."

Cons

"Recently, they started forcing everybody to use a Linux-based appliance for their z/VMs. That appliance has been extremely touchy and, in some cases, problematic."
"I'm unsure of what can be improved."
"Automated protection of workloads from one site to another could be improved."
"The tech support on my latest issue wasn't so great. I had to figure a lot of stuff out myself. It could be that I had a Level 1 tech who was new or something, but it seemed like the tech was spitballing, which does not help me."
"It is frustrating when the protection of VMs doesn't get relocated to another host before the replication appliance powers down. In such a case, you are breaking replication for the duration of that maintenance, and that can cause some support issues when you bring it back online, where you have to go in and manually recover it."
"Zerto needs to improve its documentation."
"Check your cloud providers. You don't have to host the DR side yourself. Also, look at folks other than Azure and AWS. The hidden/surprise costs will knock your socks off."
"The limitation with Zerto is that you're required to have one Zerto Manager per virtual center, and this means that you're only able to replicate one way. Technical support for this product was fantastic, before they were acquired by HP. You're now able to tell that the company is becoming too big, in terms of the support they provide."
"There is certainly a strong lobby in the company that feels that by having so many copies of the same set of data throughout the organization, we are going in the wrong direction."
"It does data manipulation language (DML) replication, but it does not do data definition language (DDL) replication. In my opinion, it is a disadvantage. It would be nicer if it was able to do both DML and DDL. I'm not 100% certain of this, but it seems Oracle Golden Gate does both DML and DDL. MIMIX only does DML, and it would be very nice if they included DDL replication. This is one feature that would be very helpful to have."
"The pricing was a little steep; I believe it could have been lower, but for what I received as far as the service, the price is pretty close."
"One thing I see as a drawback in Precisely Assure MIMIX is that deployment is quite complex and it takes time."
"The high cost of the product is an area of concern where improvements are required."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"From a pricing standpoint, there is value in it without question. However, it can become quite expensive when you start looking at the number of workloads you have in the environment and what you would like to do."
"The licensing model is good. The price is a little bit expensive, but for what customers get on it, it tends to pay for itself. However, if more and more companies start to improve, then Zerto may need to look at their pricing and make it a little better."
"The licensing cost is fair."
"The pricing doesn't seem too bad for what it does."
"Zerto is definitely more costly compared to its competitors, such as VMware Site Recovery Manager. It may not be suitable for small and medium-sized industries."
"Zerto is slightly expensive, but we do see the value in it."
"Its pricing is very competitive. As compared to VMware SRM, Zerto has reduced our OPEX cost by at least 30%."
"The cost is one of the only drawbacks of Zerto because it's very high, and the overall impact of the solution on our organization is relatively low. This is why we are trying to figure out if another product could fulfill the same role for cheaper."
"The cost of the product is too high."
"The licensing provides the access to support. I do know that there's an annual charge for being able to call into their support line and get a technical team from Precisely to assist with any issues we may have. I don't think there are any additional costs other than what we incur internally in terms of the infrastructure that we need to run and operate the product."
