Great for PCI compliance but issues with stability and large amounts of data
I mainly use this solution to meet PCI compliance The automation of compliance reports and the correlation of the log have been major improvements.  The most valuable feature is the predefined reports for PCI compliance. The correlation suite needs to be improved. I also think they need to…

Helps us detect cyber threats quickly and integrate multiple feeds effectively
Overall, the product is good, but when it comes to some infrastructure issues, we have to dig into more logs. There is no straightforward indication of an issue. Health check kind of dashboards are not available. More AI would help us, and more optimization, since security products run more queries. The AI module could suggest solutions, optimizing queries or workload balancing. If the product itself advises on running queries during peak times, it would be similar to what ChatGPT currently offers. We see quite a few issues on stability. Even last week, we faced something, and identifying bottlenecks is not easy. We need more SMEs, and there is no mechanism to tell us about indexer or search head issues. Self-monitoring dashboards could be beneficial. The technical support still requires more improvement. Often, primary support takes a lot of time and forwards most solutions to the engineering side. The primary support team has very limited knowledge to provide.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"File integrity monitoring is a very important function."
"The most valuable feature is the predefined reports for PCI compliance."
"The FIM features in the Change Tracker and the Log Tracker are the most valuable."
"If you want to deploy a SIEM and you want it to be simple, and not deal with much maintenance or help from the OEM, then I would say that NNT is the one."
"The Change Tracker tool is very good and will reduce your overall workload."
"The automation of compliance reports and the correlation of the log have been major improvements."
"This is a very easy-to-use interface with a quick ramp-up time."
"Customer Service: The service we've seen from NNT to date has been extraordinarily good."
"The most valuable features of Splunk Enterprise Security are reporting capabilities. It is a good tool for checking systems and analyzing situations. I find it useful to check my systems and analyze situations."
"Splunk Enterprise Security helps my SOC team prioritize and investigate high-fidelity alerts more effectively by enabling us to quickly gather information, collaborate, and provide various teams with access to the same information, allowing them to follow the workflow to complete the task."
"The stability and reliability of Splunk Enterprise Security is outstanding. It's a software and product that anybody can really pick up and use."
"The dashboard and reporting are very good... It provides very good visibility in a hybrid cloud environment, and you can build custom utilization APIs using Splunk."
"The ability to search for data and correlate with Jira alerts helps my daily work by enabling me to identify false positives, find traffic that can be tuned, and quickly identify malicious IP addresses."
"The solution's most valuable feature is the aggregation of all the logs in one place, using enterprise securities built-in or ESCU use cases to find them."
"Splunk has helped improve our company's resilience level."
"Combating insider threats and advanced persistent threats is an amazing feature of Splunk Enterprise Security, and it gives us the visibility that we need for those detections that other software doesn't have."

Cons

"It is able to identify the vulnerability, however, they need an option to auto-mitigate."
"I would like to see the integration of AI technology, so rather than manually monitoring the logs, the tool will understand it and take care of it."
"For the NNT Log Tracker and Change Tracker, they have to make their knowledge base available online because there is very little information available on the internet."
"The correlation suite needs to be improved."
"There are some issues with the stability - the correlation engine has failed multiple times, and the reports sometimes take too long, so we have to involve the tech team to get them."
"Only one minor deployment issue came up and it was resolved quickly. No other areas of improvement come to mind yet."
"The problem with Splunk Enterprise Security generally, from what I've seen in the last couple of years, is that it has a cultural, assumption design model around it, which means the company has to fit its internal processes in terms of how to use it."
"I perceive that the overall functionality of Splunk Enterprise Security is robust, but I believe it could see improvement, particularly in enhancing its AI capabilities."
"It is a good product, but the Achilles heel for a lot of organizations is the cost model for it because it gets expensive. That's because the model is based on how much data it processes a day, which can be prohibitive, especially if you have a lot of data. A lot of customers may not be ready for the sticker shock on how to fully leverage the product. I realized that the reason for that is that when it was originally designed, it was kind of like a big data modeling application. If they want to have a bigger customer base, they can come out with subsets of their product that are focused on specific things and have different pricing models. It may help with the cost."
"The pricing can be better."
"The biggest thing with Splunk is making sure that the documentation is maintained."
"I chose eight out of ten because of the lack of retroactive IOC hunts and potentially missing data, which prevented me from giving it a ten."
"There is improvement needed when importing from some types of data sources. Most of the time you have to do some customization for the data because not everything is working the way it should."
"Its interface could be improved."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Consider both their on-premises solution and their hosted solution. Both are reasonably priced."
"NNT's pricing is moderate - I would rate their pricing two-and-a-half out of ten."
"We have selected a perpetual license along with support."
"Splunk Enterprise Security is expensive but the solution is equipped with a lot of features."
"It is economical than other solutions."
"The pricing modules could be improved."
"Unlike other security tools, Splunk provides a fixed amount of gigabytes per day, and we are required to pay for any additional usage beyond that limit, in addition to our monthly cost."
"The pricing and licensing of the product are quite high."
"Splunk Enterprise Security is not a cheap product, but I think it is worth every dollar that you pay."
"The pricing could be made more competitive."
"Pricing and licensing are quite high compared to other tools or SIEM tools, but the features justify it."
